Palestinian journalist Saeed Abu Hassanein was killed on Wednesday evening when his tent was directly targeted by a missile fired by an Israeli drone on Al-Bi'ah Street, west of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip.

The same attack also killed his wife, Asmaa, 36, and his daughter, Sarah, 15, while they were sleeping inside their tent, according to a family source who spoke to Al-Manassa.

The source explained that the journalist and his family had taken refuge in the tent after losing their home in Deir al-Balah during the previous months of the war. They were then directly targeted without prior warning or a request to evacuate the area.

Hamas-affiliated Sawt al-Aqsa Radio mourned Abu Hassanein, who had worked in sound engineering and mixing for nearly twenty years, stressing that he dedicated his career to serving and developing Palestinian radio work.

In its obituary, the radio said that by targeting Palestinian journalists and media professionals, the Israeli occupation seeks to suppress the Palestinian narrative and the free Palestinian voice, obliterate the truth, and suppress the crimes committed by its army on a daily basis.

She emphasized that the occupation has failed to break the will of the Palestinian people and suppress their narrative, despite the killing, destruction, and starvation they are subjected to. She emphasized the continuation of her work despite the targeting and killing of her colleague Saeed and other journalists who preceded him.

The Palestinian Democratic Media Gathering also condemned the crime, describing the targeting of Abu Hassanein and his family members as an "assassination" that falls within the crimes of genocide committed by the Israeli occupation.

In a statement seen by Al-Manassa, the Gathering noted that the number of journalists killed since the start of the war on October 7, 2023, has reached 213, in addition to dozens of detainees in Israeli prisons.

The Gathering emphasized that these crimes will not weaken the resolve of media professionals and journalists or prevent them from fulfilling their Palestinian national and humanitarian mission. It called on human rights and international organizations, especially those concerned with protecting journalists, to take immediate and effective action to stop these violations and work to hold the occupation accountable before international courts and isolate it from the international community.

The Israeli occupation army resumed its aggression against the Gaza Strip on March 18, resuming a war it had begun on the Strip on October 7, 2023, after refusing to complete a ceasefire agreement that had entered into force on January 19. The agreement was supposed to end with the exchange of all detainees held by Hamas and Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, but the occupying state did not do so.

وأسفر القصف ذاته عن مقتل زوجته أسماء 36 عامًا، وابنته سارة 15 عامًا، بينما كانوا نائمين داخل خيمتهم، حسبما قال مصدر بالعائلة لـ المنصة.

وأوضح المصدر أن الصحفي لجأ وأسرته إلى الخيمة بعدما فقد منزله في دير البلح خلال أشهر سابقة من الحرب، قبل أن يتم استهدافهم بشكل مباشر ودون تحذير مُسبق أو مُطالبة بإخلاء المكان.

ونعت إذاعة "صوت الأقصى"، التابعة لحركة حماس، الزميل أبو حسنين، الذي يعمل في مجال الهندسة الصوتية والمكساج منذ نحو عشرين عامًا، مؤكدة أنه كرّس مسيرته المهنية لخدمة وتطوير العمل الإذاعي الفلسطيني.

وقالت الإذاعة، في بيان نعيها، إن الاحتلال الإسرائيلي يسعى من خلال استهدافه للصحفيين والإعلاميين الفلسطينيين، لتغييب الرواية الفلسطينية والصوت الفلسطيني الحر وطمس الحقيقة والجرائم التي يمارسها جيشه بشكل يومي.

وأكدت أن الاحتلال فشل في كسر إرادة الشعب الفلسطيني وتغييب روايته وما يتعرض له من قتل وتدمير وتجويع، مشددة على استمرار عملها على الرغم من استهداف وقتل الزميل سعيد ومن سبقه من الزملاء الصحفيين والصحفيات.

كما أدان "التجمع الإعلامي الديمقراطي الفلسطيني" الجريمة، واصفًا استهداف أبو حسنين وأفراد أسرته بـ"الاغتيال" الذي يندرج ضمن جرائم الإبادة الجماعية التي يرتكبها الاحتلال الإسرائيلي.

ولفت التجمع في بيان اطلعت عليه المنصة إلى أن عدد الصحفيين الذين قُتلوا منذ بدء الحرب في السابع من أكتوبر 2023 بلغ 213 صحفيًا وصحفية، إضافة إلى العشرات من المعتقلين في السجون الإسرائيلية.

وشدد التجمع على أن هذه الجرائم لن تنال من عزيمة الإعلاميين والصحفيين أو تمنعهم من أداء رسالتهم الوطنية والإنسانية الفلسطينية، مطالبًا المنظمات الحقوقية والدولية وخاصة المعنية بحماية الصحفيين بضرورة التحرك الفوري والفاعل لوقف هذه الانتهاكات، والعمل على محاسبة الاحتلال أمام المحاكم الدولية وعزله عن المجتمع الدولي.

وعاود جيش الاحتلال الإسرائيلي العدوان على قطاع غزة في 18 مارس/آذار الماضي، مستأنفًا حربًا بدأها على القطاع في 7 أكتوبر 2023، بعد أن رفض استكمال اتفاق لوقف إطلاق النار دخل حيز التنفيذ في 19 يناير/كانون الثاني الماضي، وكان من المقرر أن ينتهي بتبادل جميع المحتجزين لدى حماس وانسحاب إسرائيل من قطاع غزة لكن دولة الاحتلال لم تفعل.
