Gaza - Islam Hajila heard the sound of the bombing at dawn on Thursday, which shook the Mustafa Hafez School in the Gaza Strip, where she is displaced. She immediately rushed outside, in a state of panic and terror unlike any she had experienced before.

The bombing targeted the neighboring building, which houses many of Islam's relatives. Shortly afterward, she saw the building engulfed in flames, consuming the bodies of children and women.

The Israeli bombing of the school killed 16 people, including women and children, and injured dozens, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Among the dead were 13 members of one family, in addition to three former prisoners forcibly deported by Israel from the West Bank. Horrific images of the massacre circulated on social media, including a father cradling his child as they were both consumed by fire.

The school ceased receiving students in the first months of the war, having been transformed into a shelter for dozens of families, most of whom were from the Shuja'iyya neighborhood east of Gaza City.

غزة- سمعت إسلام حجيلة -فجر اليوم الخميس- صوت القصف الذي وقع كزلزال هز أرجاء مدرسة مصطفى حافظ في قطاع غزة، حيث تنزح، فهرعت على الفور إلى الخارج، وسط حالة من الفزع والرعب لم تعشها من قبل.

وكان القصف استهدف المبنى المجاور الذي يضم عديدا من أقارب إسلام، التي رأت -بعد وقت قصير- كيف تشتعل النار في المبنى، وتلتهم ألسنة اللهب أجساد الأطفال والنساء.

وأسفر القصف الإسرائيلي الذي استهدف المدرسة عن استشهاد 16 شخصا، بينهم نساء وأطفال، وإصابة العشرات، حسب وزارة الصحة الفلسطينية، وبين الشهداء 13 شخصا من عائلة واحدة، إضافة إلى 3 أسرى سابقين، أبعدتهم إسرائيل قسرا من الضفة الغربية، بينما تناقلت مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي صورا مروعة للمجزرة، بينها أب يحتضن طفله، وقد التهمتهما النيران.

وتوقفت المدرسة عن استقبال الطلاب منذ الأشهر الأولى للحرب، بعدما تحوَّلت لمركز إيواء لعشرات الأسر، معظمها من حي الشجاعية شرق مدينة غزة.
