Po­lice be­lieve the body that washed ashore at Cumana is that of one of the peo­ple on board a boat sus­pect­ed of car­ry­ing drugs, arms, and am­mu­ni­tion which was de­stroyed by a US bat­tle­ship while at sea ear­li­er this week.The body was dis­cov­ered around 9:30 pm on Cumana To­co Beach.Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, the de­ceased is a Venezue­lan na­tion­al. His right hand and right foot were miss­ing, a piece of cloth­ing was tied around his neck, and his body showed signs of burns.The body was found by Ja­son Clement of Ma­tu­ri­ta, who was camp­ing at O’Hal­lo­ran Camp in Cumana.Po­lice were in­formed, and a par­ty of of­fi­cers led by In­sp Sankar and in­clud­ing PCs Isles, McK­etchie, and Boodoo re­spond­ed.Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer Dr Lynch viewed the body, pro­nounced the man dead, and or­dered its re­moval to the San­gre Grande Hos­pi­tal mor­tu­ary pend­ing a post-mortem.To­co Po­lice are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
