In the early morning of May 3, 2025, U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), in coordination with Puntland Security Forces, carried out airstrikes against ISIS militants in the Dhasaan Sare area of the Miraale Valley in the Bari region. The strike killed 10 militants, according to a report from the International Crisis Group, and came hours after militants attacked the nearby area of GuryoSamo, according to military officials and local media reports.

The PSF Second Battalion repelled that surprise attack, according to battalion spokesperson Captain Mohamed Ali. “Several terrorists detonated suicide vests before our forward defenses could fully engage,” Ali said. “The remaining attackers were swiftly neutralized by our troops; their bodies were displayed at dawn as proof of our success.”An unconfirmed number of militants were killed, and one PSF soldier suffered minor wounds.

AFRICOM confirmed their involvement in the operation, announcing that “In coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) conducted an airstrike against ISIS-Somalia May 3, 2025. This airstrike occurred in the Miraale Region, Somalia.” The AFRICOM statement did not include any information on casualties.
