Two Journalists Killed in Turkish Drone Attack South of Kobani

The Turkish occupation state has renewed its systematic targeting of journalists in northern and eastern Syria. Hawar News Agency correspondent Jihan Bilkin and journalist Nazim Dashtan were killed in a Turkish drone attack south of Kobani on December 19, 2024.

The attack occurred at 3:20 PM on the road between the Tishrin Dam and the town of Sirrin, while the journalists were documenting the ongoing attacks by Turkey and its mercenaries on the region.

The drone targeted a vehicle carrying the journalists, killing Jihan Bilkin and Nazim Dashtan, and seriously wounding the driver, Aziz Haj Bozan.

Jihan Bilkin, a correspondent for Hawar News Agency, and journalist Nazim Dashtan had been covering the situation on the ground since December 8, including Turkish attacks on the Tishrin Dam and the Qaraqozak Bridge. They were known for their commitment to reporting the truth amid escalating Turkish violations in the region.

This attack on the journalists is not the first of its kind. Human rights organizations have documented hundreds of violations committed by Turkey against journalists in Kurdish areas, including direct targeting and arbitrary arrest.

This attack reflects a dangerous escalation in Turkish violations and places further pressure on the international community to uphold its responsibilities to protect journalists and guarantee media freedom.

استشهاد صحفيين في هجوم تركي بمسيّرة جنوب كوباني

جددت دولة الاحتلال التركي استهدافها الممنهج للصحفيين في شمال وشرق سوريا، حيث استشهدت مراسلة وكالة هاوار جيهان بلكين والصحفي ناظم داشتان في هجوم نفذته طائرة مسيّرة تركية جنوب مدينة كوباني يوم أمس، 19 كانون الأول 2024.
وقع الهجوم في الساعة 15:20 عصرًا على الطريق الواصل بين سد تشرين وبلدة صرين، أثناء تأدية الصحفيين عملهما في توثيق الهجمات المستمرة التي تنفذها تركيا ومرتزقتها على المنطقة.
استهدفت المسيّرة مركبة كانت تقل الصحفيين، مما أدى إلى استشهاد جيهان بلكين وناظم داشتان، وإصابة السائق عزيز حج بوظان بجروح بليغة.
كانت جيهان بلكين، مراسلة وكالة هاوار، والصحفي ناظم داشتان يقومان بتغطية الأوضاع الميدانية منذ 8 كانون الأول الجاري، بما في ذلك الهجمات التركية على سد تشرين وجسر قرقوزاق. وقد عُرفا بالتزامهما بنقل الحقائق وسط تصاعد الانتهاكات التركية في المنطقة.
الهجوم الذي استهدف الصحفيين ليس الأول من نوعه. فقد وثّقت منظمات حقوقية مئات الانتهاكات التي ارتكبتها تركيا بحق الصحفيين في المناطق الكردية، بما في ذلك الاستهداف المباشر والاعتقال التعسفي.
يعكس هذا الهجوم تصعيدًا خطيرًا في الانتهاكات التركية، ويضع مزيدًا من الضغط على المجتمع الدولي لتحمل مسؤولياته تجاه حماية الصحفيين وضمان حرية الإعلام.
