Israeli Airstrike on Damascus; Reports Indicate Targeting of Senior Revolutionary Guard Commander

The Israeli army targeted a residential building in the Mezzeh district of Damascus, near the Iranian embassy, with an airstrike Tuesday night.

According to local sources, the strike was aimed at a senior Iranian commander in the building, and there are reports that he was injured.

The sources explained that the targeted building in the Mezzeh neighborhood housed Iranian officers and their families, adding that at least 15 people were killed or wounded in the bombing.

The pro-regime SANA news agency reported that the Israeli enemy launched an air attack with three missiles from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, targeting a residential and commercial building in the densely populated Mezzeh district of Damascus.

The airstrike also resulted in the deaths of seven civilians, including children and women, and injured 11 others, according to initial reports. It also caused significant material damage to private property in the surrounding area.

Local sources indicated that Civil Defense teams and the Damascus Fire Brigade were evacuating residents of the upper floors of the targeted building, as the building's stairwell was damaged by the Israeli airstrike.

For its part, Hebrew media reported that the airstrike targeted a senior commander in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, without specifying the individual's identity or position.

استهدف الجيش الإسرائيلي، بغارة جويّة ليلة أمس الثلاثاء، مبنى سكنيّ في منطقة المزّة بالعاصمة دمشق، بالقرب من السفارة الإيرانيّة.

وبحسب مصادر محلّية، فإن الغارة كانت موجهّة لاستهداف قيادي إيراني كبير في المبنى، مشيرةً إلى أنباء عن إصابته.

وأوضحت المصادر، أنّ المبنى المستهدف في حي المزة يضم ضباطاً إيرانيين مع عوائلهم، موضحة أن 15 شخصاً على الأقل قتلوا وأصيبوا على الأقل من جراء القصف.

وبدورها قالت وكالة “سانا” المواليّة إن العدو الإسرائيلي شن عدواناً جوياً بثلاثة صواريخ من اتجاه الجولان السوري المحتل مستهدفاً أحد الأبنية السكنية والتجارية في حي المزة المكتظ بالسكان في دمشق.

كما أسفرت الغارة عن مقتل سبعة أشخاص مدنيين، بينهم أطفال ونساء، وإصابة 11 آخرين بجروح كحصيلة أولية، بالإضافة لإلحاق أضرار مادية كبيرة في الممتلكات الخاصة بالمنطقة المحيطة”.

وأشارت مصادر محلية إلى أن فرق الدفاع المدني وفوج إطفاء دمشق تقوم بإخلاء سكان الطوابق العلوية من البناء المستهدف، نتيجة تضرر درج البناء إثر الغارة الاسرائيلية.

ومن جهتها، ذكرت وسائل إعلام عبرية أن الغارة استهدفت قيادياً كبيراً في “الحرس الثوري” الإيراني، دون أن تحديد الشخصية أو منصبها.
