“Sanaag Regional Leaders Condemn US Airstrike that Killed Omar Abdullahi and Demand Urgent Explanations”

Security and administrative leaders in Sanaag Regional State, Northeast Somalia, part of the Federal Government of Somalia, strongly condemned the accusations made by the US Africa Command (AFRICOM).

This condemnation came in the wake of the killing of Omar Abdullahi in a US airstrike in September 2025, an event that sparked widespread outrage among local officials and the community.

The US airstrike targeted the Ji’enyo area near the city of El Buh, resulting in the death of Omar Abdullahi, a prominent social figure in the region.

Later, AFRICOM announced that the attack targeted an arms dealer with ties to al-Shabaab, without providing further details or identifying the target.

In a strong reaction, Faisal Abdullahi, the security director of Sanaag region, confirmed that the incident was unexpected and surprising.

He added that Omar Abdullahi was known for his efforts in promoting peace and worked closely with the government and the local community.

For his part, Brigadier General Abdullahi Omar Ashur, commander of special forces in the region, described the attack as “illegal and unjustified.”

He pointed out that Omar Abdullahi had recently met with Said Abdullahi Deni, president of Puntland State in the Federal Republic of Somalia, in Bosaso, raising questions about the motives behind the attack.

Adam Ahmed Ali, the police chief of Sanaag region, also indicated that Omar Abdullahi was not wanted or suspected of any terrorist activity, emphasizing that the attack caused unrest and widespread concern among the population. In the same context, Said Ahmed Jama, the governor of Sanaag region, confirmed that Omar Abdullahi was a well-known and trusted figure in the community, and that no information had been received about his involvement in any criminal activity.

He added that the local community and the government are awaiting clarification from the United States regarding the reasons for the attack.

It is worth noting that these statements come at a time when the region is witnessing protests and demonstrations demanding the disclosure of the circumstances surrounding the killing of Omar Abdullahi, amid calls for a transparent investigation by the US authorities.

أدانت قيادات أمنية وإدارية في محافظة “سناڠ” بولاية شمال شرق الصومال التابعة للإتحاد الفيدرالي الصومالي، بشدة الاتهامات التي وجهتها قيادة القوات الأمريكية في أفريقيا (AFRICOM).



وجاء ذلك على خلفية مقتل “الوجيه عمر عبد الله” في غارة جوية أمريكية استهدفته في سبتمبر 2025، وهو الحدث الذي أثار استنكارًا واسعًا بين المسؤولين المحليين والمجتمع.



وكانت غارة جوية أمريكية قد استهدفت منطقة “جيعنيو” القريبة من مدينة “عيل بوه”، مما أسفر عن مقتل “الوجيه عمر عبد الله”، أحد أبرز الشخصيات الاجتماعية في المحافظة.



وفيما بعد، أعلنت AFRICOM أن الهجوم كان يستهدف “تاجر أسلحة” مرتبط بتنظيم الشباب، دون تقديم مزيد من التفاصيل أو الكشف عن هوية المستهدف.



وفي رد فعل قوي، أكد “فيصل عبد الله”، مدير الأمن في محافظة “سناڠ”، أن الحادث كان غير متوقع ومفاجئ.



وأضاف أن “الوجيه عمر عبد الله” كان معروفًا بجهوده في تعزيز السلام وكان يعمل بشكل وثيق مع الحكومة والمجتمع المحلي.



من جانبه، وصف “العميد عبد الله عمر عاشور”، قائد القوات الخاصة في المنطقة، الهجوم بأنه “غير قانوني وغير مبرر”.



وأشار إلى أن “الوجيه عمر عبد الله” كان قد التقى مؤخرًا مع “سعيد عبد الله دني”، رئيس ولاية بونتلاند التابعة للإتحاد الفيدرالي الصومالي، في “بوصاصو”، مما يثير تساؤلات حول دوافع الهجوم.



كما أشار “آدم أحمد علي”، قائد شرطة محافظة “سناڠ”، إلى أن “الوجيه عمر عبد الله” لم يكن مطلوبًا أو مشتبهًا به في أي نشاط إرهابي، مؤكدًا أن الهجوم تسبب في اضطرابات وأثار قلقًا واسعًا بين السكان.



وفي ذات السياق، أكد “سعيد أحمد جامع”، محافظ محافظة “سناڠ”، أن “الوجيه عمر عبد الله” كان شخصية معروفة وموثوقة في المجتمع، ولم ترد أي معلومات عن تورطه في أي نشاط إجرامي.



وأضاف أن “المجتمع المحلي والحكومة ينتظران توضيحات من الولايات المتحدة حول أسباب الهجوم”.



تجدر الإشارة إلى أن هذه التصريحات تأتي في وقت تشهد فيه المنطقة احتجاجات ومظاهرات تطالب بالكشف عن ملابسات مقتل “الوجيه عمر عبد الله”، وسط مطالبات بفتح تحقيق شفاف من قبل السلطات الأمريكية.
