Eyewitness from Beit Jinn: "We felt like the days of war had returned."

The death toll from the Israeli attack on the town of Beit Jinn in southern Syria has risen to 13, the Damascus Countryside Health Director, Dr. Tawfiq Hasaba, told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), after the Israeli army announced it had carried out an operation in the area to "arrest wanted individuals."

Syrian state television reported an "Israeli aggression" against the village of Beit Jinn, located southwest of Damascus on the slopes of Mount Hermon, resulting in "martyrs, including women and children, while others remain trapped under the rubble."

The village head, Abdul Rahman al-Hamrawi, told AFP that "the Israeli occupation army entered Beit Jinn to arrest three young men from the village, leading to clashes with residents who tried to resist the incursion."

Following this, "Israeli occupation forces shelled the village with drones and artillery," according to al-Hamrawi, causing casualties.

Dr. Tawfiq Ismail explained that the injured were transferred to Al-Mowasat Hospital and Qatana Hospital in the Damascus countryside. Some were in critical condition and required surgery. He noted that the Damascus Countryside Ambulance System, in cooperation with the Syrian Civil Defense, provided first aid to those who did not require hospitalization.

Syrian television reported that dozens of families had fled Beit Jinn to safer nearby areas.

The Israeli army announced on Friday morning that its forces had conducted an operation "during the night of Thursday to Friday aimed at arresting suspected members of the Islamic Group," stating that they were "active" in the village of Beit Jinn "carrying out terrorist activities against civilians in the State of Israel."

In a statement, the army reported that "the operation was fully completed, all those wanted were arrested, and a number of terrorists were eliminated." It also noted that six Israeli soldiers were wounded, three of them seriously, in the exchange of fire.

قال مدير صحة ريف دمشق، الدكتور توفيق حسابا، لوكالة الأنباء السورية "سانا" إن عدد القتلى جرّاء الهجوم الإسرائيلي على بلدة بيت جن في جنوب سوريا ارتفع إلى 13 قتيلاً، وذلك بعد إعلان الجيش الإسرائيلي تنفيذ عملية في المنطقة بهدف "اعتقال مطلوبين".

وأفاد التلفزيون السوري عن "عدوان إسرائيلي" على قرية بيت جن الواقعة جنوب غرب دمشق على سفح جبل الشيخ، ما أوقع "شهداء بينهم نساء وأطفال، فيما لا يزال آخرون عالقين تحت الأنقاض".

وقال مختار القرية عبد الرحمن الحمراوي لوكالة الأنباء الفرنسية إن "جيش الاحتلال الإسرائيلي توغل إلى بيت جن لاعتقال ثلاثة شبان من أبنائها، ما أدى إلى اشتباكات مع السكان الذين حاولوا التصدي لعملية التوغل".

وإثر ذلك، "قصفت قوات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي عبر مسيرات وبالمدفعية" القرية، وفق الحمراوي، مُوقِعة ضحايا.

وأوضح الدكتور توفيق إسماعيل حسابا أنه تم نقل الإصابات إلى مشفى المواساة ومشفى قطنا بريف دمشق، بعضها بحالة حرجة وتحتاج لإجراء عمليات جراحية، مشيراً إلى أن منظومة إسعاف ريف دمشق بالتعاون مع الدفاع المدني السوري قدمت الإسعافات الأولية للحالات، التي لا تستدعي النقل إلى المشافي.

وأفاد التلفزيون السوري بنزوح عشرات العائلات من بيت جن إلى المناطق القريبة الأكثر أمناً.

وكان الجيش الإسرائيلي أعلن صباح الجمعة أن قواته نفّذت "خلال ليل الخميس الجمعة، عملية تهدف إلى توقيف مشتبه بهم ينتمون إلى تنظيم الجماعة الإسلامية"، وقال إنهم كانوا "ينشطون" في قرية بيت جن "ويقومون بأنشطة إرهابية ضد مدنيين في دولة إسرائيل".

وأفاد في بيان عن أن "العملية أُنجزت بالكامل وتم اعتقال جميع المطلوبين والقضاء على عدد من الإرهابيين"، مشيراً إلى إصابة ستة جنود إسرائيليين، ثلاثة منهم إصاباتهم بالغة، في عمليات تبادل إطلاق النار.
