Rabat – Israeli forces launched an attack on a school in central Gaza today, reportedly killing several displaced Palestinians who had sought shelter there. Identified as el-Ezz Ben Abd el-Salam School, the school is located north of the Nuseirat refugee camp.
According to reports from Al Jazeera Arabic and the Wafa news agency, children are among the casualties. The exact number of fatalities and injuries remains unclear as rescue operations continue.

This is not the first time Israeli forces have targeted a school-turned-shelter in Gaza. Over the past few weeks, Israel has conducted several similar attacks, often justifying them by claiming that Hamas uses the schools for military purposes.
Meanwhile, ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas in Cairo concluded on Sunday without reaching a final agreement. Despite the lack of progress, talks are expected to continue at a lower level in the coming days.
According to sources cited by the Reuters news agency, neither side was willing to compromise on key proposals presented by the mediators, which included Egyptian, Qatari, and US officials.
One of the main sticking points was the presence of Israeli forces in two critical areas: the Philadelphi Corridor, which is the buffer zone between Gaza and Egypt, and the Netzarim Corridor, a strategic route in Gaza.
Mediators proposed alternatives to Israel’s presence in these corridors, but both parties rejected the suggestions. Israel views control over these areas as crucial to its security, fearing that without it, arms and supplies could reach Hamas more easily.
Meanwhile, Hamas insists on the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, in line with the terms of the ceasefire proposal US President Joe Biden presented in May and the UN Security Council later endorsed.
Another area of disagreement involved the release of Palestinian detainees. Hamas demanded the release of specific individuals, but Israel expressed strong reservations about some of the detainees on the list. Israel proposed that if these detainees were released, they should be expelled from Gaza, but this condition was unacceptable to Hamas.
