Doctors at a hospital in the Gaza Strip successfully performed an emergency cesarean section on a pregnant woman named Dareen Abu Shamala after she died, saving her baby.

Speaking to AFP, Ayman Abu Shamala, the father of the newborn, who was named "Mecca" at her mother's request, said: "The pregnant woman fell from the third floor after the building where they were staying was bombed."

Saving baby "Mecca" is not the first such case in the Gaza Strip. Doctors have performed several similar operations on pregnant women who were killed during the war, successfully saving their newborns.

تمكن الأطباء في أحد مستشفيات قطاع غزة من إجراء عملية قيصرية طارئة لسيدة حامل تدعى دارين أبو شمالة بعد وفاتها وإنقاذ جنينها.
وفي حديث لوكالة الأنباء الفرنسية قال أيمن أبو شمالة والد المولودة التي سميت "مكة" بناء على طلب والدتها: "إن الأم الحامل سقطت من الطابق الثالث بعد قصف البناية التي كانوا يقيمون فيها."
إنقاذ المولودة "مكة" ليس الأول في القطاع، فقد أجرى الأطباء عدة عمليات مشابهة لسيدات حوامل قتلن أثناء الحرب، ونجحوا في إنقاذ حياة مواليدهم.
