The Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that Israel bombed the Al-Tabi'in school, which was sheltering displaced people in the Al-Daraj neighborhood east of Gaza City, early Saturday morning, killing more than 100 people. Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Bassal told AFP that "three Israeli missiles struck the school, which was sheltering displaced Palestinians." He condemned the attack as a "horrific massacre," adding that "the bodies of the civilians were engulfed in flames." The Israeli army stated, "A short while ago, an aircraft, acting on intelligence, struck... terrorists operating from a military command post located inside the Al-Tabi'in school." It added, "Hamas terrorists used the command post to hide and to promote various terrorist attacks against the IDF and the State of Israel." On Thursday, the Civil Defense in the Gaza Strip announced that at least 18 people were killed in an Israeli airstrike that targeted two schools.
