A senior al-Qaeda leader and his companion were killed on Saturday in Abyan province by an airstrike carried out by a drone believed to be American.

Local sources reported that the drone targeted an al-Qaeda position in Wadi al-Naseel in the Mudiyah district, killing the leader, Salem Qassem al-Marqashi, and one of his companions.

The sources indicated that al-Marqashi was a prominent field commander in the organization, responsible for carrying out armed attacks against security and military forces in several areas of the province.

وأفادت مصادر محلية بأن الطائرة استهدفت موقعًا لتنظيم القاعدة في وادي النسيل بمديرية مودية، ما أدى إلى مقتل القيادي سالم قاسم المرقشي وأحد مرافقيه.
 
وأشارت إلى أن المرقشي يعد أحد القيادات الميدانية الفاعلة في التنظيم، حيث كان مسؤولًا عن تنفيذ هجمات مسلحة ضد القوات الأمنية والعسكرية في مناطق عدة بالمحافظة.
