Based on the information currently available, it can be estimated that the majority of ISIS leaders, who were mostly white foreigners from more than 20 different countries, are no longer alive today.
Since the start of the war against ISIS, the Puntland administration has said that it has killed 700 foreign ISIS fighters. The Puntland report added that only five Somalis lost their lives in the operation.
These fighters came from Europe, North America, Africa and Asia.
Most of the foreign fighters entered the country illegally or under the guise of refugees, especially those from Ethiopia who later joined ISIS, according to the authorities.
There were also those who crossed the border from Yemen secretly, using smugglers' boats, which meant they entered the country without any travel documents.
Puntland claims that it has so far eliminated 70% of ISIS fighters in the Al-Qaida mountains, most of whom were foreigners. However, this represents the largest number of foreign fighters killed in a short period of time in Somalia.
