President Yitzhak Herzog spoke with the mayor of Tirat Carmel, Dudu Cohen, following the missile strike this morning on a residential building in the city, and asked to strengthen the city's residents.
In their conversation, President Herzog expressed his support for the residents of Tirat Ha'ir, and inquired about the condition of the residents of the building that was damaged. Among other things, the president told the mayor: "I am calling to strengthen you and all your residents. Please convey to the residents of Tirat Carmel words of encouragement and strength from me on behalf of the entire country."
The mayor thanked the president for his words, shared with him the details of the incident and the way the municipality and the security and rescue forces handled it, and revealed that a major disaster was averted in the incident: "To my great joy, the missile did not explode, and this is an event that ended in a truly great miracle. The damage was serious. The missile penetrated the roof and passed several floors. To our great joy, it missed the fire brigade by several meters."
"The residents of Tirat Carmel are strong, our people are very strong," added the mayor, "We are confident that the IDF and the security forces will do the job and finish the mission, and God willing we will return to normal." At the end of their conversation, President Herzog sent a message to the mayor, saying that he would be happy to visit Tirat Carmel soon.

נשיא המדינה, יצחק הרצוג שוחח עם ראש העיר טירת כרמל, דודו כהן בעקבות פגיעת הטיל הבוקר בבניין מגורים בעיר, וביקש לחזק את תושבי העיר.
בשיחתם הביע הנשיא הרצוג את תמיכתו בתושבות ותושבי טירת העיר, והתעניין במצבם של הדיירים בבניין שנפגע. בין השאר אמר הנשיא לראש העיר: "אני מתקשר לחזק אותך ואת כל תושביך, תעביר לתושבי טירת כרמל דברי עידוד וחיזוק ממני בשם כל המדינה".
ראש העיר הודה לנשיא על דבריו, שיתף אותו בפרטי האירוע ובאופן הטיפול של העירייה וכוחות הביטחון וההצלה, וחשף כי באירוע נמנע אסון כבד: "לשמחתי הרבה הטיל לא התפוצץ, וזה אירוע שהסתיים בנס גדול באמת, הנזק רציני. הטיל חדר מהגג ועבר כמה קומות, לשמחתנו הרבה הוא פספס בכמה מטרים את הממ"דים".
"תושבי טירת כרמל חזקים, העם שלנו חזק מאוד", הוסיף ראש העיר, "אנחנו בטוחים שצה"ל וכוחות הביטחון יעשו את העבודה ויסיימו את המשימה, ובע"ה נחזור לשגרה". בסיום שיחתם מסר אמר הנשיא הרצוג לראש העיר, כי ישמח לבקר בקרוב בטירת כרמל.
