As soon as the sounds of gunfire and shelling that accompanied the airborne operation subsided at dawn on Saturday, the villages east of Baalbek awoke to a silence heavier than the roar of the explosions. Neither Nabi Sheet nor its neighbors, Khraibeh and Shamshtar, needed military statements to grasp the magnitude of the tragedy; the shattered houses told the whole story. In a solemn procession, Hezbollah and the residents of the area mourned the victims of the "landing massacre": 35 civilians and 4 members of the military, each with a name, a family, and a dream cut short at dawn. In Nabi Sheet, 22 martyrs were laid to rest in the town's soil, led by First Inspector Yahya Shukr of the General Security Directorate, who was martyred in the heart of his town, which he never left. In Khraibeh, the grief was twofold; the Israeli withdrawal was anything but peaceful. Eleven people were killed during the Israeli withdrawal, having ambushed and confronted the soldiers face-to-face. Among them were three members of the Lebanese Army: First Corporal Hussein Awad, Private Jawad Awad, and Private Ali Khalil. Their uniforms were stained with the blood of martyrdom as they fell on their own land, among their own people, in the heart of the confrontation. The city of Baalbek bid farewell to the entire family of Dr. Mustafa al-Zein, whose home in the town of Shamshtar was targeted by an Israeli airstrike. The parents perished, followed by their four children, laid to rest in a single shroud that encapsulated the grief of the Bekaa Valley. The day of farewell was not without further escalation; while the crowds were burying the victims, a violent Israeli airstrike rocked the Jaroud al-Khariba area, coinciding with the funeral procession.

ما إن خفتت أصوات الرصاص والقذائف التي رافقت عملية الإنزال الجوي، فجر السبت، حتى استيقظت قرى شرقي بعلبك على صمتٍ أثقل من دوي الانفجارات. لم تكن "النبي شيت" ولا جاراتها "الخريبة" و"شمسطار" بحاجة إلى بيانات عسكرية لتدرك حجم الفاجعة؛ فالبيوت المحطّمة كانت تروي القصّة كاملة.في موكبٍ مهيب، شيّع "حزب الله" وأهالي المنطقة ضحايا "مجزرة الإنزال"، ٣٥ مدنياً، و٤ من المؤسسة العسكرية، لكلّ واحد منهم اسم، وعائلة، وحلم توقّف عند مطلع الفجر. في النبي شيت، ٢٢ شهيداً احتضنهم تراب البلدة، تقدّمهم المفتش الأول في الأمن العام يحيى شكر، الذي استشهد في قلب بلدته التي لم يغادرها.في الخريبة كان الحزن مزدوجاً، لم يمر انسحاب القوة الإسرائيلية مروراً آمناً؛ ١١ ضحية إذ سقط هؤلاء خلال عملية انسحاب القوة الإسرائيلية حيث كمنوا لها وتصدوا لجنودها وجهاً لوجه، بينهم ٣ عناصر في الجيش اللبناني، وهم العريف الأول حسين عوض، المجند جواد عوض، المجند علي خليل،  تعمدت بدلتهم العسكرية بدم الشهادة وهم على أرضهم وبين أهلهم في قلب المواجهة.أما مدينة بعلبك فودّعت عائلة الدكتور مصطفى الزين بأكملها، حيث استهدفت غارة إسرائيلية منزلهم في بلدة شمسطار، فلم تترك من رائحتهم أحداً؛ رحل الوالدان، ورحل خلفهما أطفالهما الأربعة، ليواروا الثرى في كفن واحد يختصر وجع البقاع.لم يخلُ يوم الوداع من التصعيد الميداني؛ فبينما كانت الحشود تواري الضحايا الثرى، هزّت غارة إسرائيلية عنيفة منطقة جرود الخريبة، تزامناً مع مراسم التشييع.
