Danish shipping giant Maersk reported on Saturday that the port of Salalah was evacuated and operations there temporarily suspended after Omani authorities announced a drone attack that injured one worker and caused limited damage.

In a statement, Maersk said the attack caused explosions, leading to the immediate evacuation of the port and a temporary suspension of operations. The company added that Maersk's current assessment is that the suspension will last approximately 48 hours.

On Saturday, the Iranian armed forces announced they had targeted a US logistics vessel off the coast of Salalah, a port operated by Maersk's subsidiary APM Terminals. Salalah has been targeted by Iranian attacks in the past during the Middle East conflict.

وقالت شركة ميرسك العملاقة للشحن البحري في بيان إن الهجوم تسبب في "وقوع انفجارات" ثم "إخلاء الميناء فورا وتعليق العمليات فيه مؤقتا"، وأضافت أن "تقديرات ميرسك الحالية تشير إلى أن تعليق العمليات سيستمر لمدة 48 ساعة تقريبا".

وأعلنت القوات المسلحة الإيرانية السبت أنها استهدفت سفينة لوجستية أميركية قبالة ميناء صلالة الذي تُديره شركة "APM Terminals" التابعة لميرسك، والذي تأثر في السابق بهجمات إيرانية في ظل الحرب في الشرق الأوسط.
