(CNN) — Bahrain’s state news agency reported Sunday that Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), a major company in the country, was targeted Saturday in an Iranian attack that injured two employees.

The company, also known as Alba, confirmed that the safety and security of its employees remains its top priority and that the incident resulted in two minor injuries.

The Bahrain News Agency (BNA) added that Alba is currently assessing the extent of the damage to its facilities and remains focused on maintaining the continuity of its operations and the safety of its staff. The company will issue further updates as needed.

Separately, Abu Dhabi-based Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) said Saturday that its site in Al Taweelah sustained “significant damage” from Iranian missile and drone attacks.

Authorities had previously stated that debris from an intercepted ballistic missile caused three fires near Abu Dhabi’s Khalifa Economic Zone, injuring six people.

Reuters reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed, without providing details, that the two companies had ties to the U.S. military and airlines.

Alba had already shut down three smelting lines earlier this month, representing 19% of its annual production capacity, due to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a previous company statement.

The Middle East's aluminum sector accounts for approximately 9% of global supply, according to Reuters.

ومن جانبها، قالت شركة الإمارات العالمية للألمنيوم، ومقرها أبوظبي، السبت، إن موقعها في الطويلة قد تعرض لـ"أضرار جسيمة" جراء هجمات صاروخية وطائرات مسيرة إيرانية.

وكانت السلطات قالت في وقت سابق إن الحطام المتساقط من صاروخ باليستي تم اعتراضه تسبب في اندلاع ثلاثة حرائق قرب منطقة خليفة الاقتصادية في أبوظبي، وأسفر عن إصابة 6 أشخاص.

وذكرت وكالة "رويترز" أن الحرس الثوري الإسلامي زعم، دون تقديم تفاصيل، أن الشركتين تربطهما علاقات بالجيش الأمريكي وشركات الطيران.

وكانت شركة ألبا أغلقت بالفعل 3 خطوط صهر في وقت سابق من هذا الشهر، وهو ما يمثل 19% من طاقتها الإنتاجية السنوية، بسبب الاضطرابات في مضيق هرمز، وفقا لبيان سابق للشركة.

ويمثل قطاع الألمنيوم في الشرق الأوسط نحو 9% من الإمدادات العالمية، بحسب وكالة "رويترز".
