The Iraqi National Intelligence Service held a funeral procession Saturday evening for one of its officers who was killed in an attack on its headquarters in Baghdad. The service also released the officer's name.

In a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, the service said, "The funeral procession for the martyr Sarmad Tayeb Nouri was held in the presence of the head of the National Intelligence Service, Hamid al-Shatri, and a number of the service's leaders and officers."

The statement added that "the martyr was the victim of a cowardly terrorist act carried out by outlaw groups targeting the service's headquarters in Baghdad this morning, Saturday."

Earlier, a security source reported that a booby-trapped drone directly targeted the Iraqi intelligence service headquarters in Baghdad, coinciding with escalating security tensions in the region.

The source confirmed to Shafaq News Agency the death of a major in the service and the serious injury of another officer as a result of the drone explosion within the headquarters compound.

The source denied reports circulating on social media about the presence of American personnel or advisors inside the headquarters at the time of the attack, asserting that this information was "completely false" and that the headquarters is entirely staffed by Iraqi national personnel.

Earlier today, the National Intelligence Service announced that the area surrounding its headquarters had been targeted by a "terrorist" attack carried out by outlaw elements, resulting in the death of one of its officers. The Service confirmed that security forces had begun pursuing the perpetrators to bring them to justice.

شيّع جهاز المخابرات الوطني العراقي، مساء اليوم السبت، جثمان أحد ضباطه الذي قُتل جراء استهداف مقر الجهاز في العاصمة بغداد، فيما كشف عن اسمه.

وذكر الجهاز في بيان ورد لوكالة شفق نيوز، أنه "بحضور رئيس جهاز المخابرات الوطني حميد الشطري وعدد من قيادات الجهاز وضباطه تم تشييع جثمان الشهيد (سرمد طيب نوري)".

وأشار إلى أن "الشهيد كان ضحية عمل إرهابي جبان نفذته جماعات خارجة عن القانون استهدف مقر الجهاز في بغداد صباح هذا اليوم السبت".

وفي وقت سابق، أفاد مصدر أمني بأن طائرة مسيّرة مفخخة استهدفت بشكل "مباشر" مقر جهاز المخابرات العراقي في العاصمة بغداد، بالتزامن مع تصاعد التوترات الأمنية في المنطقة.

وأكد المصدر لوكالة شفق نيوز مقتل ضابط برتبة "رائد" في الجهاز وإصابة منتسب آخر بجروح وصفها بأنها "لا تخلو من خطورة"، جراء الانفجار الذي أحدثته المسيّرة داخل باحة المقر.

ونفى المصدر الأنباء المتداولة على منصات التواصل الاجتماعي بشأن وجود عناصر أو مستشارين أميركيين داخل المقر لحظة الاستهداف، مؤكداً أن تلك المعلومات "غير صحيحة البتة"، وأن المقر يُدار بالكامل من قبل كوادر وطنية عراقية.

وكان جهاز المخابرات الوطني قد أعلن، قبل ظهر اليوم، تعرض محيط مقره إلى استهداف "إرهابي" نفذته جهات خارجة عن القانون، ما أسفر عن مقتل أحد ضباطه، مؤكداً أن الأجهزة الأمنية بدأت ملاحقة الجناة لتقديمهم للعدالة.
