Erbil (Kurdistan 24) - The armed group "Saraya Awliya al-Dam" (Brigades of the Guardians of Blood), affiliated with the "Islamic Resistance in Iraq", claimed responsibility for an attack it carried out today, Wednesday, March 4, 2026, targeting a military base belonging to the American forces at Erbil International Airport.
The group explained in an official statement that the attack was carried out by a swarm of drones.
Regarding the motives for the operation, the group indicated that the targeting came as a "legitimate duty" and as a deterrent to what it described as ongoing attacks, as retribution for the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and in response to the attacks that recently led to the killing of a number of members of Iraqi armed factions.
Reports from Erbil indicate that the security situation in the city remains stable and normal, confirming that the attack did not result in any casualties. 
Previously, there were several attempts to destabilize Erbil and target coalition military bases and consulates using booby-trapped drones by outlawed armed groups, but most of those attacks failed and did not hit their targets thanks to the presence of advanced defense systems.
