In the second alleged US-waged strike on October 31st, up to 12 people, including at leats one civilian, were killed and between two and 30 were left wounded, as a strike targeted local Taliban leader Maulvi Nazir in Kari Kot, south Waziristan, local and international media reported.

There was wide variation in the numbers of casualties reported. Between four and twelve people were killed, including up to seven “foreigners” – a term often used for al-Qaeda members.

According to The Nation, one civilian was killed in the strike, as the house of Mohammad Haroon Wazir was destroyed and Haroon himself – a relative of Nazir – was reported killed. Though Haroon, according to The News, was a close relative and spokesman for Maulvi Nazeer, he will be recorded as a civilian.

Moreover, between two and 30 people were left injured in the strike against Maulvi Nazir who was himself wounded. One of Nazir’s comrades later told The News: “It was our good luck that the drones fired two missiles on the room next to him and razed it to the ground.”

Six people were injured according to data collected by the FATA political administration.

The strike almost ended Pakistan’s peace deal with Nazir’s faction. A senior commander told The News shortly after the attack: “Maulvi Nazeer Sahib has asked me to convey his message and this is our last ultimatum to the government. Then we will pick up arms and will fight against our own government and security forces instead of crossing the border for Jihad against the US-led forces in Afghanistan.”

All sources blamed the US for carrying out the strike, with some saying that three US drones were seen in the sky at the time of the attack.
