In the number 100 registred drone strike under the Obama administration, sources reported that a US airstrike in Tabbi Tool, north Waziristan, had killed up to six people – most likely militants but could include civilians – as well as wounded another four.
Up to six people were reported killed and between two and four were injured in the attack hitting a car and a house or seminary. Citing a local official, AFP reported: “the missiles hit a compound and also destroyed a vehicle belonging to the militants, he said, adding: “The identity of the militants was not immediately known as the bodies were mutilated.””
Some reports claimed that Taliban commander Hamza Mehsud was killed.
While several reports said that the six killed were militants, others described at least four of the killed as “people” – thus suggesting that civilians could be among the victims.
Moreover, it was not clear how many of the two to four wounded who were militants or civilians.
All known sources agreed that the strike was the work of a US drone. For example, The Long War Journal reported how “an unmanned Predator or the more deadly Reaper fired two missiles at a known “militant compound” in the village.”
