As many as six people, hereof five possible civilians, were killed as the US allegedly carried out a drone strike, consisting of six missiles, in Ghulam Khan, north Waziristan, local and international media reported.
Alleged fighters returning from Afghanistan and “staying with the local Taliban” were the reported targets of a strike that killed up to six people.
However, one single source sowed doubt as to whether civilians were among the fatalities, as an internal, official Pakistani record of drone strikes, published by the Bureau of Investigative Journalism in January 2014, said five “locals” were killed in this strike.
Moreover, the document said that “US Drone carried out missile strike and fired about 06/07 missiles in Miraki Hills Gulak Khel Gurbaz area,” adding that “reportedly, Hafiz Gul Bahadar Group fired some missiles across the border and in retaliation from other side of the border the said attack was carried out (sic).”
All known sources said that the US – specifically a US Predator drone – was behind the strike.
