An alleged US drone strike on a house (reported as owned by tribesman Zar Wali Khan Wazir) killed up to ten people and wounded another two, local and international media reported.
Following the strike, reports varied, spanning from at least three fatalities to as many as ten.
At the time, the Pakistan Tribune noted that “there was no information about the identity of the slain men but local tribesmen said they were tribal militants affiliated with the Pakistani Taliban commander, Maulvi Nazeer. Some reports, however, suggested that a senior militant commander of the Maulvi Nazeer group was also killed in the attack.”
Generally, the fatalities were described as being affiliated with the Taliban network, and there is therefore, as of now, no indications that civilians were among the killed.
However, one source describes the two wounded as “people”, why the as of now, will be considered as possible civilians.
Fourteen months later The News reported that Ilyas Kashmiri may have only been injured in a June 3 strike, and instead may have died “a week later” in a drone strike near Wana. This and a June 6 strike most closely match those details. However, the US believed it had killed Kashmiri before this strike – he had been removed from the Rewards for Justice website before June 14 2011.
