12 days that shook Iran | AJ Fault Lines Documentary

Al Jazeera’s Fault Lines produced a 30-minute documentary investigating civilian deaths in Iran during the 12-day war between Iran and Israel in June 2025. It includes interviews with relatives of those killed, reports from the sites attacked and stories of survivors who were injured in the strikes and are still recovering from their wounds.

As part of the documentary, the Al Jazeera team investigated an Israeli strike on Evin Prison, which officials had reported killed up to 80 people, though relatively little had been written about the identities of the victims. The Fault Lines team partnered with Airwars as we worked through our casualty recording process to build a more complete picture of who was killed in the attack. At minute 15.30, the film states the conclusions of the partnership:

“We teamed up with Airwars, the research organisation that verifies casualties in conflict zones, to better understand the civilian toll. Airwars confirmed the names of 53 of the civilians killed in the Evin strike – they included prison staff, social workers, medical personnel, prison visitors and children,” the report said.

The full results of Airwars’ documentation of the Israel-Iran June 2025 conflict will be released publicly in 2026.
