One child was killed and thirteen civilians, all adult males, were injured in alleged YPG artillery strikes on residential areas of the city of Afrin, Aleppo governorate, on January 29th, 2020, according to local sources.
The Syrian Civil Defence reported the death of 13-year-old Ahmed Tammam Qatayerji. They listed the names of 13 injured men. The severity of the injuries was not reported.
Local activists told SMART News Agency that SDF forces stationed near Al Ahlam mountain – which reportedly is under control of the pro-Turkey faction the Syrian National Army – targeted Assiyasiah wa Fillat street ( شارعي السياسية و الفيلات ). Horrya, however, reported that SDF forces stationed in Maranaz were responsible for the artillery strikes, which hit civilian homes. Zaitun Agency reported that Qsad militarias stationed south of Afrin were responsible.
Qassioun reported that several shells landed on different locations in the city, mentioning the Commandos School, the first road to Jandares, next to Afrin Flowers Mall, Freedom Square, behind Nayrouz roundabout and opposite to Kabso restaurant. Aramme News mentioned the location of Raju Road near Saif al-Dawla school.
One source, Dwarozh, blamed pr-Turkey militants for the incident. The source read: “Pro-Turkey militants bombed the city of Afrin, Wednesday night, killing a child and wounding 13 others, all of them civilians. ”
