On March 31, 2026, debris which fell from the alleged interception of an Iranian drone in Al-Kharj Governorate of Saudi Arabia reportedly resulted in two minor injuries and minor material damage to a number of houses and vehicles.

The Saudi Civil Defense was the main source of information on the event. The initial reports by Saudi News around 4:18 a.m. and by the Saudi News Agency two hours later, which quoted the Civil Defense, proclaimed no civilian harm. However, later, at 9:56 a.m., on its official Facebook account, the General Directorate of the Saudi Civil Defense reported two minor injuries and material damage. The available sources did not specify which actor was responsible for carrying out the interception.

According to Tasnim News and Tass, on March 31, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Air Force announced that it carried out a strike on US troops at the Prince Sultan Air Base in Al-Kharj, Saudi Arabia, according to the statement from IRGC press service. The IRGC claimed the killing and injury of around 200 members of the US army. According to the IRGC, the majority of those killed and wounded were fighter pilots. Airwars has included this source among those referring to this incident of harm, but as the statement referred specifically to an attack on a U.S. base and did not note an interception, it may refer to different strikes. As such, the strike status for the incident remains “likely”.

Noted above, the strike status of the incident has been graded as “likely” and the civilian harm status has been deemed “contested” due to the involvement of air defenses, possibly belonging to Saudi Arabia or the United States.
