Airwars assessment
On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, an alleged Israeli airstrike hit a residential area in the Aqba Ain Ebil neighborhood of Bint Jbeil, Southern Lebanon, reportedly killing a child Mohammed Hassan Bilal Saad on his birthday.
Sources described the event as a “raid,” a term commonly associated with aerial bombardment in the region. Reports from BintJbeil detailed Mohammed’s last phone call with his grandmother before the strike. The outlet described how the child had been looking forward to celebrating his birthday that afternoon. Moments after the call, the strike occurred, allegedly ending his life. The media also shared an image of the late Mohammed – he was a boy around 10 years of age with a fair complexion, dark hair and eyes, and glasses. In the image, he is seen wearing a red Nike hoodie.
Lebanon on Mind similarly reported Mohammed’s death, stating that he had “ascended to join his mother, father, brother, and sister,” suggesting that his parents and siblings had died or were killed before. However, the report offered no further further details. An image shared by Lebanon on Mind suggests that Mohammed was a member of the Scouts movement – he is seen wearing a characteristic uniform and a tie.
A post from Ali bin Abi Talib, referred to Mohammed as “the martyred bud” and linked his death to broader ideological narratives, describing him as being “on the road to Jerusalem.”
Another source, Suleiman Alkasir, shared personal reflections and a video from the day before the incident, describing Mohammed as a “happy bud” without providing further details about the strike or casualties.
Where sources identified a belligerent, only one source attributed responsibility to Israeli forces. Therefore, Airwars has graded the strike status of the incident as a single source claim.
The local time of the incident is unknown.
The victims were named as:
