Al least one civilian, a child, was killed in alleged Israeli drone strikes on Shejaiya neighborhood on May 11th 2021.
Hamza Mahmoud Yassin Ali, between 10 and 12 years old, was killed in the strikes on Shejaiya. @MahmOudEssaaM__ tweeted that he was killed when “he went out of the house to buy home supplies for his blind mother” and @wassilaoulmi added that he was “on his way to bring vegetables to his family for breakfast”.
Al Qabas published details that “Hamza was fasting and had left his home in Al-Shuja’iya neighborhood, east of Gaza City, 3 hours before the time of breaking the fast on the penultimate day of Ramadan, to buy some vegetables for his family from the neighborhood market, which is about one kilometer from the house, when a Zionist warplane launched an air raid, near “Abu al-Kas cemetery.”
Defense for Children International Palestine reported that Hamza “was struck by shrapnel from an Israeli drone-fired missile” and “was participating in a funeral procession near his home when he sustained wounds to his abdomen and lacerations on his limbs”.
The following morning after the strike, on May 12th at 10:40am, Palestinian Centre for Human Rights reported that “medical sources announced the death of the child Hamza Mahmoud Yassin Ali, 12 years old, as a result of his severe injury yesterday as a result of the bombing of the Shejaiya neighborhood in Gaza, where he lives and was wounded by fragments scattered in the body and underwent surgery and remained in intensive care until it was announced his death.”
Al Qabas added that “Hamza, aged 12, remained an unidentified martyr for several hours in Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, before his father recognized him, who went to the hospital in search of him after a long wait and did not return home. Hamza, the fifth among his brothers, belongs to a poor family, and was forced to work to help his father, Abu Yasser Nassar, and his mother, who is blind.” According to @M_Durmaz_Ar, Hamza “was in the sixth grade and one of the first in his school” and @turkwahtarab tweeted that “Hamza was a man the age of a child, and because of his family’s circumstances and his father’s economic hardship, he used to rely on himself in many things, and even his family relies on him to perform daily tasks even though he is not the largest among males.”
Abu Yasser Nassar (uncle of the martyr’s father) told Al Jazeera Net, “Hamza lived a miserable life, but God wrote for him this beautiful ending with death as a fasting and smiling martyr until his image became a symbol for the children of Palestine who lose safety and risk death every moment. He was distinguished among his four brothers and his three brothers from his father. His love falls in the heart of everyone who sees and deals with him. He was smart in his dealings with people, and excelled in his studies.”
@ShehabAgency identified the location of the strikes as occurring in the Al-Bariah Junction in Shejaiya and other sources pinpointed the strike to Abu al-Kas cemetery. All of the sources that identified who was to blame attributed the strikes to Israel.

Reports of the incident mention the vicinity of Abu Al Kas cemetary (مقبرة أبو الكاس), for which the generic coordinates are: 31.498205, 34.473901. Due to limited satellite imagery and information available to Airwars, we were unable to verify the location further.
