During the evening of August 3, 2024, the Hamama School in the Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood of Gaza City was allegedly hit for a second time by Israeli planes while rescue efforts were underway after at least 16 civilians were killed in an initial bombardment on what Israeli forces claimed was a Hamas ‘command and control center’. The second strike led to an as yet undetermined number of casualties.

Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Basal described this as a “double tap” strike in an interview to CNN.

The Hamama School, located in the Al-Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood, served as a shelter for displaced families and was undergoing evacuation and recovery efforts from an initial alleged Israeli airstrike less than an hour before when the second airstrike hit. Sources such as Alaraby News reported the second strike involved the deployment of three additional missiles, causing further damage to the school.

According to @PalinfoAr, children were injured in the second bombing of Hamama School while Echo of Palestine reported that “new martyrs and wounded” resulted from the second strike. The Civil Defense in Gaza, as reported by multiple local news channels, including Felesteen News and Qudspress.com, faced difficulties in their attempts to retrieve the dead and wounded from the first strike due to the renewed bombing of the place and the surrounding area. The first strike has been assessed by Airwars in ISPT030824e.

References to fatalities and injuries in the plural has been categorised by Airwars as a range of at least two civilians. This toll will be updated should further information come to light.

Where sources attributed responsibility, all pointed to Israeli forces as the perpetrating party of this second airstrike.
