At around 9 AM on May 28th, at least six people were killed, and at least two others injured, when the Israeli military reportedly opened fire on a group of people trying to reach an aid distribution centre in the Muraj area, north of Rafah. The group was reportedly on Al-Tina Street, south of Khan Younis, when the military opened fire. Four of those who were killed were members of the Mousa family, and three of them appear to have been children. Two men and one elderly woman were also among those killed.

A post shared by Aboud Batah to Facebook at around 11 PM local time said that victims were being retrieved from the Al-Tina Street, south of Khan Younis. The post said that they had been heading to receive aid from the Muraj area, north of Rafah. Aboud named Ashraf Anwar Khalil Musa, Ashraf’s brother Khalil Anwar Khalil Abu Musa, the brothers’ cousins Khalil Ashraf Khalil Musa and Muhammad Imad Ramadan Abdul Hadi, as well as an elderly woman named Kifah Awda Suleiman Al-Sawarka, and a man named Zuhair Zwaid Muhammad Al-Shaer as the six people killed.

At around 2 PM, an “urgent” report shared by @refugeesps to Twitter/X said that victims were “pulled from Al-Tina Street, south of Khan Yunis, while on their way to receive aid from the Miraj area, north of Rafah.”

A Facebook post, shared by Al Mayadeen Network at around 5 PM reported that five people had been killed and 15 wounded “by the occupation’s bullets and shelling”. The post said that those who were injured and killed were trying “to reach the aid distribution center near Kaf Muraj, north of Rafah city.”

A video shared at around 3 PM showed loved ones gathered around shrouds – crying, praying, and then hugging the bodies. While it is not clear who exactly is covered, the post, shard by @PalinfoAr, said that the video is from a funeral at the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, and that those killed were “killed by Israeli occupation forces while heading to receive aid from an American company near the Morag axis, north of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.” At least two covered bodies are seen in the video.

At around 5:30 PM, a post shared by Amal Farag on Facebook said that “6 martyrs and 15 injured with bullets and bombardment by the occupation army of citizens who tried to reach the aid distribution center in the Qizan-Rashwan area south of Khan Younis.” Amal named the six individuals mentioned above – Muhammad Imad, Khalil Ashraf, Ashraf Anwar, Khalil Anwar, and Zuhair Muhammad.

Similarly, an article posted by Safa.ps at the end of the day said that “6 citizens were martyred and others were injured as a result of Israeli bombing that targeted them while they were trying to reach the American aid point in the Qizan Rashwan area, southwest of Khan Younis.” The same six individuals: x men, a woman, and x children.

Twitter/X user @PalinfoAr also shared information relating to the incident at the end of the day. Posting at just before 8 PM, the account shared an image of a man lying on a pallet in one of the cleared aid corridors. The caption says that the man had been “pulled by citizens onto a goods pallet”, after being injured “while heading to obtain humanitarian aid west of Rafah city.”

Another article, published by the Palestinian Information Center on the evening of the 28th said that “An elderly woman was killed and a number of citizens were injured on Wednesday when the occupation forces opened fire on citizens who had gathered in the hope of receiving aid in Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.” Quoting local sources, the article identified the older woman as Kifah Odeh Suleiman al-Sawarka, and reported that she “was shot by occupation soldiers this morning near the aid center in the Mirage area, south of Khan Younis.”

Citing the organisation’s own correspondents who were in the area during the incident, the article said that “the occupation’s quadcopters opened fire on the citizens and asked them to move away from the area, amid assurances that aid distribution would be cancelled for that day.”

Describing the general scene, the Palestinian Information Center’s correspondents reported that “dozens” of citizens had come to Al-Alam street, the site of the aid distribution, in hopes of receiving aid, but were instead, exposed to gunfire.

Kifah’s death was announced by Facebook account The thorn unites us – Rafah City, in a simple post which read “The martyrdom of the citizen | Kifah Awda Suleiman Al-Sawarka.”

Zuhair’s death was announced by a family Facebook account called The poet’s family – official page. The post, shared in the later afternoon of the 28th, said that Zuhair was “was shot by the Israeli occupation forces, while trying to reach the US aid distribution point in the Qizan Rashwan area”.

Zuhair was also remembered by his nephew, Talat Alshaer. Talat also shared an image of Zuhair. In the photo, Zuhair smiles softly toward the camera. He wears black pants and a black t-shirt under a dark navy jacket. He appears to be standing in a space set up for a photo op or a celebration, with arches and flowers set up for the scene.

Many members of the Mousa family posted online to remember Muhammad Imad, Khalil Ashraf, Ashraf Anwar, Khalil Anwar.

Khalil Ashraf was remembered by a number of family members online, including his father, Ashraf Abu Muhammad. Mourning Khalil, Ashraf remembered his son as “the apply of [his] eye”, writing “my words are inadequate and language fails me because my overflowing feelings for you cannot find suitable words.” Ashraf went on to write “I still imagine your martyrdom as just a dream, and that you are still alive… I miss you indescribably, but our only consolation is that this is a fleeting world.”

Ashraf also remembered his nephew Muhammad Imad, as well as the sons of his brother, Khalil Anwar and Ashraf Anwar. Ashraf closed his post, praying for God to have mercy on his nephews and son.

Khalil and Ashraf’s uncles on their mother’s side, Mahmoud Mousa and Wael Mouse, separately announced the Khalil Anwar and Ashraf Anwar’s deaths, as well as the deaths of their cousins, Khalil Ashraf and Muhammad Imad. Alongside his prayers for the young men, Mahmoud shared images of Khalil Anwar and Ashraf Anwar. In one picture, Khalil Anwar wears a short-sleeved light blue button-down shirt with white stripes. The shirt is untucked, and Khalil Anwar smiles confidently toward the camera, his arms crossed. The photo appears to have been taken at a garden or park, with lush green foliage visible behind him. Alongside the image of Khalil Anwar, Mahmoud shared an image of Ashraf Anwar. Ashraf appears to be a child, and is wearing a long-sleeve navy or denim button-down shirt. He smiles toward the camera, his head slightly cocked to the right side.

Posting to Facebook, Ghassan Ibrais remembered three members of the Musa family – Khalil Anwar, Ashraf Anwar, and Khalil Ashraf. Ghassan remembered the three boys each as a “beloved martyr”.

The same three family members were also remembered by Said S. Alfaqawi. Remembering the three relatives, Said wrote “By God, the eyes shed tears and the heart is saddened, and we are truly grieved by your departure.” Said also shared two images showing the three Ashraf-Anwar boys. In the photos, Khalil Anwar, Ashraf Anwar, and Khalil Ashraf pose together with a soccer trophy, and two of the boys wear medals. They all wear black track pants, and the team’s color is red with yellow or gold accents. Based off of this image, in which the three Ashraf-Anwar boys are clearly children, Khalil Anwar, Ashraf Anwar, and Khalil Ashraf have been recorded as children. This will be updated if contradictory information becomes available.

People also posted online to remember, celebrate, and mourn the live of Muhammad Imad Abdel Wadi. One post, shared to Facebook by Karam Elhusseini, offered condolences to Muhammad’s mother and “generous family.” Karma’s post included a photo showing Muhammad in a white button-down shirt and dark three piece suit. He’s also seen wearing a red tie and a red kerchief peaks out from his pocket. In the photo, he’s buttoning his jacket and smiling toward the camera.

Where possible, names of victims were cross-checked against fatality records released by the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH). Airwars’ researchers ascertained all victims’ ages using these lists, matching individuals’ named to the ninth MoH list released on June 23, 2025. Airwars prioritizes the first appearance of a name across these lists for consistency.

Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the attack to the Israeli military.
