Airwars assessment

Five civilians were reported killed in Coalition strikes, including a woman and child. The US later admitted to two deaths in the attack, noting: “Manbij, Syria, during a strike against an ISIL target, it is assessed that two civilians were killed.”

As Shaam News reported, “activists stressed that Syria democratic forces and elements of the military council of the city of Manbij took control of the Shari’ya building and arrived at the National Hospital west of the city, after a violent attack from rocket and artillery bombardments on positions controlled by ISIL. SDF achieved this progress thanks to the shelling, and air cover and logistical support provided by the United States since the start of the battle over a month ago. There’s information about the death of civilians caused in bombing by Coalition fighter jets today.”

The local Manbij Documentation Agency named the victims: “the family of Hussein al Alloush from Jarablos were killed. Three young men, a girl and a woman.”

In July 2019, the Coalition provided Airwars with the location for this incident, accurate to within a 100 metre box.

Airwars assessment

Nine named civilians including six children died and up to 11 more were injured in an airstrike on Burj Qai, according to local sources – though reports were conflicted as to whether this was the work of Russia or the Syrian regime.

The Syrian Human Rights Committee, Homs Media Centre, LCCSY and other local news centres in Homs accused Russia of the shelling.

Despite this, Halab Today, Shahba Press and several other local news sources pointed to the regime.

According to Halab Today, “regime warplane shelling in Burj Qai’ killed eight civilians and wounded 10. Most of them are in a critical condition.” Cluster bombs reportedly accompanied the airstrike which struck the Civil Defence and wounded three first aiders.

Ara News reported that the eight killed were from the same family. Furthermore, a local resident said that the family were displaced from Sneysel village.

Photographic and video evidence from the airstrike indicates that many victims were indeed children.

Local Homs Media Centre reported that seven civilians were wounded, however, the Syrian Human Rights Committee placed the numbers slightly higher at 11.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

Two children from the same family died in airstrike on Kafr Hamra, according to sources on the ground – though reports were conflicted as to whether Russia or the Syrian regime were to blame.

Both the regime and Russian jets were reportedly seen in Kafr Hamra on July 10th. Al Jazeera and Halab News Network both blamed Russian warplane shelling.

However, The Syrian Network for Human Rights pointed to the Syrian regime, along with several other local sources.

Sana Revolution Aleppo claimed that an entire family were wounded in the Russian warplane shelling.

Between nine and ten civilians were injured in the airstrike, according to a number of sources. Photographic evidence shows that several children were among the wounded.

ARNN tweeted explosive barrels also struck Kafr Hamra.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

In a major civilian casualty event, 20 named civilians – mostly women and children – died and up to 30 more were wounded in airstrikes on Abeen village, according to local media – though sources were conflicted as to whether Russia or the Syrian regime carried out the attacks.

Syrian Press Centre, Al Jazeera, Smart News, other local news sources and residents of the town, reported sighting Russian warplanes.

But Ara News blamed the Syrian regime, claiming that it “targeted and shelled” civilians housing. Baladi News also pointed to Assad warplanes.

There was some conflicted reporting from Shaam News Network. The source initially attributed the incident to the regime, but in a subsequent report claimed the “Russian Airline carried out four successive raids, with rocket stereochemistry on the small village [Abeen Smam’an], targeting residential houses and causing a large massacre of its inhabitants.”

The majority of those killed were children. There is considerable photographic evidence of this claim. Furthermore, these numbers do not include the four civilians that Shaam Network reported were still missing on the 11th of July.

Ara News placed the number of wounded at 20, however it also reported this was the initial toll. A local news source, Madar Daily, put the number of injured much higher at 30. It added that  “it is worth mentioning that this village doesn’t have any armed opposition as it’s far from the front line and most people are displaced from Aleppo and its countryside.”

On the 11th of July, the day after the attack, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that many people were still trapped under the rubble and the Civil Defence were working to rescue them.

According to the Shaam News Network, Abeen Smam’an was not the only neighbourhood to be struck. It claimed that cluster bombs struck camps for displaced people in Brive Kfrckrman in Western Aleppo.

Halab News Network reported that the overall death toll in Aleppo on the 10th of July was 75. LCCSY placed this much higher at 104 in Aleppo, 142 overall in Syria.

The local time of the incident is unknown.
