Airwars assessment

One civilian was reported killed, and two children and two women were injured in alleged Russian airstrikes on Rif Al Muhandiseen in Aleppo’s western countryside, Syria at 11:14 am on January 18th, 2020. Macro Media Center reported that vacuum missiles were used in the attack.

Abdul Rahman Hilal Al-Halabi, aged 23, was killed in the attack, and his body was recovered by the Syrian Civil Defense volunteers from under the debris of his house. Justice Organization said that the victim was a student registered with the ‘Mustafa Koja High School’ in Aleppo countryside while the Syrian Network for Human Rights identified Mr Al-Halabi as a 23 year old medical student from the village of Ram Hamdan, north of Idlib.

Xber provided detailed information on the alleged attack: A well-informed source from the countryside of Aleppo told the “News 24” reporter that the warplanes targeted the Mohandessin I area in the southern countryside of Aleppo, today, Saturday, January 18, resulting in the killing of a civilian and the wounding of eight others, including gunmen from the “National Army.”

The Syrian Network for Human Rights reported saying “Abdou Helal al Halabi, a college student at the faculty of Medicine, from Ram Hamdan village in the northern suburbs of Idlib governorate, aged 23, was killed as fixed- wing warplanes we believe were Russian fired missiles on countryside of  al Muhandiseen al Awwal area in the western suburbs of Aleppo governorate, on January 18th, 2020.”

The Syrian Civil Defense said that Abdu’s mother was also injured in this incident. A post from the Syrian Civil Defense in Aleppo updated the casualties of the airstrikes on Rif Al Muhandeseen reporting that two children and two women also got injured. Local sources added that one of the wounded women included the mother of the deceased Mr Al-Halabi and a mother and her two children.

Sources blamed Russia for the airstrikes, including Justice Organization, Step Agency, SMART Agency and Macro Media Center.

Activists told the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that Russian warplanes carried out 21 raids since morning on areas in the western countryside of Aleppo, targeting places in Kafr Naha, firs rural Al-Muhandiseen, Shamiko, Al-Zerbah, Al-Mansurah and Kafr Jum.

The majority of the sources attributed the strikes to Russia.

Two civilians were reported killed and others injured when alleged Russian or Syrian regime warplanes targeted KafarNaha village in Aleppo on January 21st, 2020, according to local sources.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights reported that “Muhammad Bassout and Ahmad al Abd were killed as fixed wing- warplanes we believe were Russian fired missiles on a textile factory in Kafr Naha village in the western suburbs of Aleppo governorate, on January 21st, 2020.”

@WZ4M93fVY0KeDJb also identified that two people were killed, adding that “several” others were wounded from the vacuum missile attack.

A Facebook post by FSLA.Ovecs identified artillery shelling as occurring at 11:01 in the vicinity of the town of Kafr Naha. Eldorar detailed that the strikes resulted in “great destruction of the infrastructure”.

All of the sources attributed the strikes to Russian forces, with only FSLA.Ovecs mentioning that the regime carried out artillery shelling but it is unclear if that post references this incident since all of the other sources refer to missiles.

Two brothers were killed and others were injured in alleged Russian or Syrian regime airstrikes on the village of Kafarlata, Idlib governorate, on January 28th, 2020, according to local sources.

Step Agency reported that “two civilians were killed and others wounded due to artillery shelling by the Syrian regime forces targeting the village of Kafarlata in Jabal Al Arbaeen, south of Idlib”. Ariha Today reported the incident occurred around 8:50 PM and identified the victims as Walid and Mostafa Farouk Al Nemr. According to the Syrian Network for Human Rights, the men were brothers.

According to a Facebook post by Anastracey Official, “two men were killed as a result of Assad’s forces bombing the town of Kafr Lata with missiles carrying cluster bombs”. @Syrianewsar added that in addition to the two men killed, “others” were injured but did not specify how many.

Whereas most sources point to the Syrian regime as the belligerent, Shaam News Network blamed Russian airstrikes.
