Airwars assessment

Up to two civilians, including a woman and a child, were injured in alleged Russian or regime or Iranian strikes on Kafr Taal village on August 14, 2021.

According to the Syrian Civil Defense, “a two-year-old child was injured by missile strikes by the regime and Russia forces, this morning, Saturday, August 14, targeting civilian homes in Kafr Taal village”. However, @abo_aljod84 identified the child as being five years old.

@Sy24ria reported that both a woman and her child were injured in the shelling and attributed the strikes to the regime. The majority of other sources also gave similar information that a woman and child were injured.

Sources were conflicted as to who was responsible, with some blaming the regime for the strikes while @abo_aljod84 pointed to Russia, the regime, and Iran as responsible and @mzmgr941identified Russian and Iranian planes as flying reconnaissance in the area. Multiple sources identified both missiles and artillery shells as being used in the attack.

The incident occured in the morning.

Airwars assessment

Between one and three people were killed and ten others were injured in a reported airstrike by the Israeli armed forces. The attack hit a car on the Abou Hassira roundabout in west Gaza. One combatant was also killed, confirmed by militant group Al Qassam.

PCHR Gaza reported that at approximately 12:30 pm the Israeli forces targeted a car on Abu Hassira street and local sources identified the car as a white Citroen car.

The Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Centre stated that the airstrike targeted the car, as it was suspected of carrying a rocket-launching squad. Furthermore the Daily Mail reported that members of Hamas were inside the car that were allegedly responsible for launching an autonomous submarine.

No other sources mention that militants were in the car at the time of the attack.

According to SHMS news, three people were killed in the attack and 10 civilians were injured. Local sources identified the civilian killed as Adeeb Al-Sourani (43), the driver of the car (taxi). Mr Al-Sourani was from the Al-Shuja’iya neighbourhood. Sources reported that after the car was hit people rushed to help and an ambulance came to the place of the incident to rescue the people inside of the car.

KyleJGlen, an open-source intelligence analyst and co-founder of the Twitter feed Conflict news, tweeted that the airstrike reminded him of a R9X strike, but asserted that according to his knowledge the Israeli defence forces do not possess such weaponry.

Almayadeen News published a report stating that a spokesman for the Palestinian Ministry of Health, Ashraf al-Qidra, confirmed the attack on a civilian car and the killing of three people near the Abu Hasira junction.

The death of the belligerent Ahmed Khalil Hegazy Al-Louh (32), a member of Al Qassam, the military wing of Hamas, was confirmed by Alquassam.ps News. He was killed during the attack near the Abu Hassira roundabout. Local sources mentioned that he was a resident of the Al-Sabra neighbourhood.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

On May 20th, 2021, two civilians were reported killed by an Israeli airstrike on a car in the al-Saftawi area, west of Jabalia camp in the Northern Gaza Strip. Identified as Suhaib Al-Kahlout and Muyasara Al-Aarer, both were on al-Saftawi street, a commercial thoroughfare in Gaza City. In addition, Al-Monitor reports that the airstrikes halted water supplies to 20% of the city’s population.

Hadf news reports “Local sources reported that the occupation aircraft targeted a city car in the Saftawi area, as a result of which two civilians were killed and others were wounded. The ambulance and civil defense rushed to transport the martyrs and the injured and put out the fire that occurred in the place.”

Al-Monitor quoted the Gaza municipality, stating that “the Israeli strikes on two water pipelines of 14 and 16 inches in diameter in the Gaza district of al-Saftawi halted water supply to 20% of the city’s population, i.e., nearly 200,000 people. The suspension of water supply has aggravated the water crisis in Gaza, which is caused by the Israeli deliberate attacks on water pipelines, it added.”

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

A major bombardment of the town of Tafas in Daraa caused up to three civilian deaths and up to six more injuries, according to extensive local reporting. Both the Assad regime and to a lesser extend Russia were blamed for the attacks.

Horan Free Media, citing its local correspondent, initially described the death of one young civilian male and six injuries “including critical cases” in the attack. The Syrian Observatory also described the deaths of a man and woman.

All sources were agreed on one fatal victim, 26 year old Hafeza Mar’i al-Rabadawi, a woman. Horan for example noted that “a medical source from Tafas Hospital told the Ahrar Horan Gathering that the woman, Hafeza Mar’i al-Rabadawi, died directly as a result of the bombing, while all 6 injured people were treated in the city hospital.”

Adding some confusion to reporting, a second woman’s death – that of Sabah al-Bardan – was also initially claimed by the outlet, though this was later denied on its own Telegram channel, which reported that Ms al-Bardan was in fact alive. The Syrian Network instead reported the death of Ms al-Bardan, as did several other local sources.

A third fatal victim was named by several sources including Qasioun as Samir Reshan Al-Zoubi, a young man.

The White Helmets, which posted a video showing at least six strikes on the town, declared that “Civilians were killed and wounded in a major military escalation by the regime and Russia forces on the city of Tafas in Daraa governorate.” Halab Today said that more than 30 missiles had targeted the town, while Thiqa News claimed that 50 missiles had struck. It was one of several local sources to report three civilian deaths.

In a separate video, Shaam News showed what it described as “the state of panic and fear among the students, after missile shelling by the Fourth Division militias on the vicinity of a school during work hours in Tafas city.”

The Syrian Network condemned what it said was “the bombing of civilian-populated areas by the Syrian regime which fails to distinguish between populated civilian areas and military targets, resulting in the destruction of homes that threatens and forcibly displaces the residents of those areas.”

Baladi News was alone in suggesting the attack may have been in response to local rebel actions, noting that “The area is witnessing a security alert by regime forces, after a military vehicle was targeted with an explosive device on the Nawa – Sheikh Maskin road, west of Daraa, and the regime’s ranks were killed and wounded.”

The incident occured in the morning.

The victims were named as:

Airwars assessment

A Palestinian mother in her mid-forties was reportedly killed while her husband (49) and son were injured in an alleged airstrike by the Israeli Armed Forces in the Al-Amal neighborhood in Beit Lahiya, West of Khan Younes in Southern Gaza on May 14th/May 15th, 2021. The attack reportedly hit agricultural land next to the family’s two story house in Al-Mashrou Street.

Most sources reported the death of one civilian female, and the injury of her husband and son. Several reports identified the female casualty as Faiza Ahmed Mohammed Salama, and her husband as Ibrahim Musa Salama.

B’Tselem provided testimony from Ibrahim Salamah, 49, Faiza’s husband: On Friday, after midnight, there was massive shelling all over the northern Gaza Strip. I was with my wife and our son Musa in our apartment on the ground floor. ‘Udai and ‘Uhud were with Uhud’s family. Suraya, Musa’s wife, was also with her children at her parents’ house in a-Shati Refugee Camp. We heard very loud explosions nearby. We were in the living room, and the bombardment didn’t stop. Suddenly, I saw the window fly. I felt dizzy and fell down. I woke up several minutes later with lumps of concrete on me. I saw a concrete pillar still holding the roof up. Musa was next to me. My wife was, too, but she was buried under debris. I said to Musa, “Where’s your phone? Turn on the flashlight.” Then I told him to call for help. He called his uncle Ahmad and a friend of his. Meanwhile, I heard people shouting and screaming outside, and neighbors talking and calling Civil Defense forces and ambulances. At some point, neighbors came to rescue us. They lifted the rubble off me and pulled me out. I crawled out. Musa was taken out after me. An ambulance took us to the Indonesian Hospital. It was 1:30 A.M. At around 4:00 A.M., they extracted my wife Fayzeh’s body. I stayed at the hospital for a few hours. I was diagnosed with a fracture in the fifth vertebrae and bruises. Musa sustained bruises and partial hearing loss. We’re still recovering. At first, I went to my in-laws’, because our house was completely ruined. After the war ended, I rented this apartment.”

Only one citizen was allegedly injured according @Salehghareeb8. “We Beyond the Fence” was the only source that instead reported that “at 2 a.m. (…) two women, 19 and 50, were buried alive and killed after the army shelled their home”, claiming other local sources reported on the incident.

According to Al Mezan News, Faiza Ahmed Mohammed Salama was 44 years old, while the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights claimed she was 45.

Several sources reported that the Israeli Military fired two missiles and hit next to a two-story house that belonged to the affected family. The airstrikes left many houses destroyed according to the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights.

Relatives of the family mourned the loss on social media. Romel Salama posted on Facebook: “My Cousin’s wife, Ibrahim Salama (Abu Musa), died after the barbaric bombing of the northern Gaza Strip, where their house was bombed”, and Abo Jihad Salama stated: “With more pride and honor, we mourn the martyr of Jerusalem, the wife of my brother Ibrahim Salama (Abu Musa)”.

@Betelgeuse100 reported that the “casualties” arrived to the Al-Shifa hospital, claiming that the father was “running to escape” when his family was hit.

The consensus among sources was that Israel was responsible for the strikes. B’Tselem reported that “According to the military, Hamas’ tunnel network ran by the house.”

The incident occured around dawn.
