Airwars assessment

Three civilians died and several more were wounded in an alleged Coalition airstrike on Al Jalaa farm, according to local sources.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, “There is confirmed information about the death of three people of one family including two brothers who were killed due to bombing by warplanes believed to belong to the International Coalition on places in area near al-Jala’a Farm”. Relatives said the men were killed in a strike “on the road opposite Abu al Jahhash.”

Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently named three victims.

Airwars assessment

One civilian died and four more were wounded in an airstrike on Dibsi Faraj village, local sources said – though reports were conflicted as to whether the Coalition, Russia or the Syrian regime were to blame.

The journalist Ahmad al Shibl reported the Coalition had been “targeting the main road between Dibsi Faraj and Dibsi Afnan”. He named one victim of a Coalition raid. The man was also named by Al Raqqa Truth, which instead blamed Russia. Mohab Nasser also reported Russian strikes on the village but later said that the regime was responsible for the civilians death.

According to the Step News Agency, “three children and a woman were injured lightly in Russian raids using cluster bombs on the edges of Dibsi Faraj west of al Tabaqa in the Raqqa countryside.” The Syrian Network for Human Rights reported that the victim died at the hands of the regime, and Aleppo24 blamed shelling by regime helicopters.

Airwars assessment

Two adult male civilians died – as well as one additional child casualty – and up to a dozen or more were wounded in an airstrike on the village of Dibsi Afnan, according to local media. Most sources blame Russia, while some alleged that the regime was responsible – though more than three commentators also claimed that the Coalition carried out the attack.

@SourrNews reporred that one of the civilians killed was a displaced person. 

The two men were named by Raqqa is being Slaughtered Silently as victims of Russian raids. However, in the comment section of the post, people claim that Russia was not responsible and that the strike was by the international US led Coalition. The Shaam News Network, which put the death toll at two, also attributed the event to the Coalition.

Mohab Nasser mentioned that an eight year old child was also killed.

According to the Step News Agency, “three children and a woman were injured lightly in Russian raids using cluster bombs on the edges of Dibsi Faraj west of al Tabaqa in the Raqqa countryside.” Since this is a village nearby, it could indicate that Russia was operating in the area. Al Raqqa Truth blamed Russia for the Dibsi Afnan event.

However, Ahmad al Shibli and Mohab Nasser said that the regime was responsible for the two men’s deaths. Al A’maq also blamed the regime, while Mohab Nasser published graphic images from the A’maq video which he said depicted casualties and destruction caused by regime barrel bombs.

Sources described that cluster bombs, barrel bombs and vacuum missiles were used in the strikes.

Airwars assessment

In its July 2017 monthly casualty report, the Coalition said it had killed a civilian in the Tammuz 17 area of Mosul. The man’s family reported his name as Laith Azhar Saadallah al-Obeidi.

According to the report, “during a strike on an ISIS command and control node, it was assessed that one civilian was unintentionally killed after entering the target area after the munition was released.”

The Coalition provided Airwars with the location of this incident, accurate to within a one metre box. The location given places the event in the July 17th neighbourhood.

Relatives had posted the following message at the time: “My cousin was martyred on Monday [May 8th. Laith Azhar Saadallah al-Obeidi, after he was hit on his house on July 17, killing him and neighbors buried him in the garden of the house. God is patient with his children.”

According to the Smart News Network two civilians died and seven were injured – in addition to the death of one member of IS and the wounding of two more – in an alleged Coalition airstrike or artillery strike on Tabaqa.

Other reports gave some context, with RFS noting that “Syrian Democratic Forces managed to control the First neighborhood and the national hospital in the city of the Tabaqa, after fierce battles with ISIL and with the support of international coalition aircraft, whose air raids on neighbourhoods led to great destruction.”

In its August monthly casualty report, the Coalition confirmed an event at Tabaqah that day, though these appear to be separate incidents.

Between seven and ten civilians died and dozens more were wounded in an alleged Coalition airstrike on a vehicle carrying displaced civilians at the outskirts of Raqqa, according to local media.

The Step News Agency reported: “On Monday, May 8, the International coalition committed a new massacre in Raqqa province after it targeted a convoy transporting displaced civilians from the countryside of Homs and eastern Hama. The convoy had left Raqqa city and was heading towards Akeirbat in eastern Hama, killing 10 people in an initial toll. Th victims decided to flee from Raqqa after the situation worsened.” The victims were also named by Al Latamna Youth Union.

Other sources also blamed the Coalition, reporting that a bus carrying displaced people was hit. The Syrian Network for Human Rights put the death toll at at least seven

One source, Tayyal91aa, claimed that the incident was fake, reporting that “The missile hit next to the bus and no casualties were reported and that the bus continued its way and arrived safely in Akrabbat with passengers all safe.”

Airwars assessment

Two local sources reported that three children and their mother were killed after a either an airstrike or rocket attack hit their house in Islah Al Zerae neighborhood, in West Mosul.

The Nineveh Media Centre reported that “Local source confirmed the martyrdom of three children and their mother when a rocket attack targeted their house.” Revolution Iraqiu claimed the attack was ‘a bombing by the Coalition.”

Airwars assessment

Residents and local media sources said that 34 civilians were killed and 77 (numbers reportedly mentioned by ISIL press agency) wounded after Coalition airstrikes and shelling by Iraqi government forces hit many neighbourhoods in West Mosul.

@sh0_news said in a tweet that “more than 130 martyred civilians are the result of the bombing of the Coalition on Mosul # Today”. This appears to be an inflated compound of dead and injured figures.

An unknown source told Yaqein that Iraqi and US artillery shelling had hit several neighbourhoods in West Mosul since 7am that day, including Shalalat.

Further details are presently unknown.
