Four civilians were reported killed at al Mansour during heavy fighting, according to a single source. Their bodies were buried at Amel school.

According to Shafaaq, “Four civilians were killed in the Mansour district, southwest of Mosul during the battles between Iraqi forces and organize Daesh in the neighborhood, which is still under the control of the organization Daesh. Witnesses said that “the dead were buried in the Hope [Amel] School district.”

Local residents and press sources said that more than 200 bodies were still under the rubble and on the streets after Coalition airstrikes and shelling by Iraqi forces targeted the area close to “Syed Jamal” mosque in the Teachers district and other neighbourhoods in the West of Mosul.

@Sonawa1 reported on Twitter: “A huge explosion caused by an air strike this morning near the mosque in Teachers district at the right side caused human damage and destruction of civilian homes # Mosul”. Most sources spoke of dozens of dead and wounded.

Iraqi Spring said 200 civilians were killed. In a tweet, @ahmed_saeed2018 spoke of “around 201 dead and wounded”.

Airwars assessment

Local residents and press source said that five family members were killed in an airstrike targeting their house near the railway. They used to live together in the same house in Dur Al Sekak at the right side of Mosul. It is unclear which aircraft carried out the attack.

Shafaaq News reported that the bombing resulted in the “complete destruction of the house and a source said that “the bombing claimed the lives of all residents in the house but it was not possible to know exactly how many.”

Iraqi Spring put the death toll at seven and said ten others were wounded. One of the victims was identified as engineer Yasser Al Nuaimi (see photo below) in a tweet by @n_iraq67, who reportedly died together with four of his relatives.

Airwars assessment

Locals reported the deaths of 46 civilians including 28 children and 18 men and women with 80 others injured – mostly children and women – by different kind of shelling in many neighborhoods of Old Mosul. At least 26 bodies reportedly reached the local forensic medicine hospital.

Iraq News Center spoke of two dozen civilians killed and said that “press sources confirmed that the intelligence forces and defense ministry banned foreign journalists from entering to take pictures of dozens of bodies lying on the sidewalks and in the streets of civilian neighborhoods, who were killed in battles and clashes”.

Iraqi Spring and Correspondences team blamed the Coaition for the raids. They respectively put the death toll at 46 and 47 and reported 80 injured.

In its June 2017 report the Coalition denied responsibility: “16. March 19, 2017, near Mosul, Iraq, via social media report: The report contained insufficient information on the time, location and details to assess its credibility.”

Local sources said that four family houses were destroyed on top of their residents when airstrikes targeted an ‘ISIL headquarters’ in Hawi Al Kaneesa (Church) at west of Mosul.

Ninawa said that the houses fell on the heads of the four families living there. Nawar Nathim Ali said on Facebook there was news about civilian casualties but “now we are waiting for the details.”

Shafaaq reported that “the sources could not confirm the identity of the aircraft that carried out the air raid.” Only the Baghdad Press explicitly blamed the Coalition.
