Airwars assessment

A child was allegedly killed by LNA mortar shelling in the Khallet Al Furjan neighbourhood of Tripoli.

The Libya Observer reported: “The Joint Deterrence and Intervention Force of Abu Salim have confirmed the death of a child as a result of a mortar shell which hit their home in Albill Street in Khallet Al Furjan area.

‘The 13-year-old child was hit by a missile fired by Haftar’s militias at their house. The boy suffered head injuries and died immediately at the site,’ the force said on Facebook.”

While most other sources published similar accounts, Hona Souq Al-Khmies said: “A child killed from the family of Hussein Al-Ferjani named Ali at the age of 10 years.”

One doctor was allegedly killed in an LNA or Emirati airstrike on Qasr Bin Gashir.

The Libyan Express reported: “An airstrike by Khalifa Haftar’s forces hit a field hospital in Gaser Benghashir municipality (near Tripoli airport) on 7 October, killing 1 doctor and injuring 2 paramedics.

The airstrikes came amid heavy airpower use by Haftar’s forces, backed by UAE warplanes and drones, in an attempt to advance on Libyan Army positions in southern Tripoli.”

Al Wasat said: “Shrapnel from an airstrike on Monday killed a doctor and injured two paramedics working in a field hospital in the Al-Tweisha area south of Tripoli.

‘Dr. Samer Sulaiman al-Sibai was killed and two paramedics in the Al-Zahra field hospital were wounded,’ the Health Ministry said in a statement.”

The GNA-led Burkan Al Ghadab operation accused the UAE of conducting the strike.

UNSMIL later condemned the attack without mentioning the culprit.

Six civilians were allegedly injured in an LNA airstrike on the Equestrian Club in Janzur.

The Libya Observer said: “Airstrikes by Khalifa Haftar’s backup warplanes hit the Equestrian School in Janzour – west of Tripoli – injuring three to five children and one old man and killing a number of horses, both Fursan Janzour Brigade’s spokesman Ahmed Abdeljalili and other sources have reported.

The sources added that the school was full of children training on horse riding when Haftar’s warplanes struck it.”

Al Wasat reported: “Osama Ali, a spokesman for emergency services, said six people were injured in an air strike on the equestrian club in Janzur, most of them children.”

218 TV reported the same number of victims and said that LNA spokesperson Ahmed Al Mesmari denied LNA involvement.

Libya Alahrar TV added: “The assessment team confirmed that a fighter plane dropped four unguided bombs at the Equestrian Club, a civilian facility, and did not detect any military assets or facilities.”

UNSMIL heavily condemend the incident: “The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) is appalled by an airstrike conducted by General Haftar’s forces, targeting the Equestrian Club in Tripoli’s Janzour neighbourhood. The airstrike, which took place today in the afternoon, reportedly injured a number of innocent children and caused damage to the Club’s facilities.”

Afrigate News reported: “The airstrike on Misrata airport on Saturday targeted a mobile generator with “detectors” lamps and damaged two civilian planes with shrapnel and injured an employee of the airport handling company, the Interior Ministry said.”

Alayam Ly published a similar report.

Al Motawaset said: “A briefing on the Volcano of Anger [GNA] that the bombing caused the injury of an aviation officer at the airport, where he was taken to hospital for treatment in addition to damage to some airport facilities.”

The Libya Observer tweeted: “Flights at Misrata Int’l Airport were suspended after warlord Khalifa Haftar’s airforce militia, backed by France, UAE and Egypt, conducted an airstrike on the airport Saturday morning, wounding one worker and causing damage to two planes for Libya Wings and Libyan Airlines.”

Other sources only reported bombing at Misurata Airport, without mentioning civilian harm. Some accused the LNA, others the UAE of conducting the strike.

Alwasat reported: “The Abu Salim Municipal Council announced the killing of two young men, one of whom is Moroccan, after a shell fell due to indiscriminate shelling in the municipality.

The council said in a statement published on its Facebook page, that one young men from the Farhat family and the other of Moroccan nationality were driving in front of the house of  the Farhat family after the fall of a shell led to their death in the locality of Abu Zar al-Ghafari Street bumps.

The house was destroyed by the shell.”
