Airwars assessment

One child was reported killed, and up to five including two children were injured in an alleged Russian or Syrian airstrike or artillery shelling on Hass, Idlib in the afternoon of August 11th, which was the first day of Eid Al-Adha.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights named the child as Mohammad Thaer Qal`aji.

Macro Media Center stated that “a child was killed, and three other children and a man were injured after a MiG-23 fighter jet shelled residential neighborhoods in Hass town south of Idlib.” However, @ShahbaPress reported that, in addition to the death of the child, five others including two children were injured.

According to Baladi News and other sources, the victim child was an orphan whose parents were killed in a previous massacre committed by Russian warplanes on October 26th, 2016. However, Shaam Network said that his mother only was killed in what was known as the ‘massacre of pens ‘ in Hass, and that his father died later. Other sources said that Mohammad was the only child to his parents.

Sources predominantly attributed the attack to the Syrian regime, while others named both Russian forces and the Assad regime in reports of the incident. For example,  @FSLA2011 accused Russia: “the child, Mohammad Thaer Qal`aji, from the town of Hass in the southeastern countryside of Idlib, was killed, as a result of an airstrike by the Russian warplanes on the town, in addition to causing a number of civilian casualties, on the first day of Eid al-Adha.”

But the Syrian Network for Human Rights reported attributed the responsibility to the Syrian regime which  “fired missiles near Saned School for Orphans in Hass village in the southern suburbs of Idlib governorate, partially damaging its building and furniture, on August 11th.”

The incident occured in the afternoon.

The victims were named as:

Airwars assessment

Three civilians were reported killed, and five to11 including an elderly woman injured, in airstrikes on Hazzareen, Idlib, on August 11th.

Smart News documented “destroyed houses on August 11th, 2019, in the village of Hazareen in southern Idlib governorate in the north of the country as a result of a Russian airstrike that targeted civilian houses, killing a young man and wounding five others.”

Syrian Network for Human Rights named the man killed as Abdul Rahman Abdul Halim al Hmoud. Following these initial reports, sources reported the death of another man who succumbed to his injuries two days after the attack. Syrian Network for Human Rights stated that “Anas Walid Abdul Aziz died on August 13th, due to wounds sustained on August 11th, as fixed- wing warplanes we believe were Russian fired missiles on Hazareen village in the southern suburbs of Idlib governorate.”

Later, it was reported that another civilian, Abdeul Mo’een Al-Merei’, died of injuries he sustained as a result of the airstrikes.

Airwars assessment

Five civilians from the same family were reported injured in an alleged Russian or Syrian airstrike or artillery shelling on Kafar Nabl, Idlib, on August 11th which was the first day of Eid Al-Adha.

While an initial report stated that one woman was injured in the airstrike, all later sources indicated that the figure had risen to five as an understanding of the event unfolded.

Blame by local sources was attributed to both Russia and the Syrian regime. For example, SMART News Agency stated that “the city of Kafar Nabl south of Idlib was raided by Russian warplanes targeting houses, wounding five civilians from one family, including two women and a child, who were taken to a nearby hospital.”

However, SY24 correspondent said that the Syrian regime forces stationed in Braideej camp in the northwestern countryside of Hama rained down the city of Kafr Nabl in the southern countryside of Idlib with mortar missiles and artillery shells, which led to severe material damage to citizens’ properties, without information about injuries.

According to @jisrtv, “Regime forces bombard with rocket launchers, the city of Kafr Nabl, south of Idlib”. The airstrike is also reported to have caused fires and destruction in the attacked location.

Most sources attributed blame to Russia for the airstrike.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Five civilians, including a child, were reported injured in alleged Russian or Syiran regime airstrikes in Hayish, Idlib governorate, on August 12th, 2019, according to local sources.

Orient News stated that “four men and a child” were injured in Hayish “as a result of aerial bombardment by Assad’s warplanes on the area”.

Shaam News Network (SNN) also documented “wounded civilians” in a number of locations, including Heesh, after “Russian and regime warplanes and helicopters launched airstrikes accompanied by very heavy artillery and rocket shelling.”

Orient News wrote that “activists published photos from the town of Hayish in the southern countryside of Idlib, […] where some children sustained injuries as a result of nails sticking into their hands.”

@Step_Agency tweeted that “Russian and regime warplanes launched several airstrikes on the city of Khan Sheikhoun and the town of Heesh in the southern countryside of Idlib.” Enab Baladi reported that four civilians and a child had been injured. According to Orient News, the victims were four men and one child.

The Syrian Civil Defence (@SyriaCivilDefe) tweeted: “The child Mustafa, from the town of Hayish in Idlib countryside, was injured in a raid by Assad’s air force with missiles loaded with nails, while he was trying to flee with his family from the town due to the intense and violent bombing yesterday. Mustafa is now in good condition after being treated by our teams there.”

Shaam News Network wrote that, according to local sources, regime warplanes targeted the town with “C5” missiles fired from heavy machine guns. A correspondent for El Dorar mentioned that regime L-39 warplanes targeted Hayish with “with small missiles loaded with bombs containing nail fragments”.
