According to Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently, one child “died after he was hit with shrapnel when Coalition planes targeted Daesh trucks while they were setting up barriers on the edges of al Ballikh river near the village of Raqqa al Samra east of the city”.

Local sources reported that at least one civilian died in an alleged Coalition airstrike on Raqqa’s al Sabahiya neighbourhood.

Reports said that the al Sabahiya mosque was struck, with all sources blaming the US-led Coalition.

According, to RFS, “The shelling focused on the neighbourhoods of al-Sabahia and al-Jazra, west of al-Raqqa and the al-Mashlab neighbourhood east of it, killing civilians in al-Sabahiya district”. Al Hassaka Rasd named one victim as “the young man, Ahmad Othman, from the Euphrates”.

Airwars assessment

A civilian male was reportedly killed following artillery strikes on February 23 Street, Raqqa, likely carried out by US forces.

A number of local sources named the victim as Ahmad Tarad al Khalifa al Haj. Abdulsalam Farij, a relative of the deceased, said via Facebook that the man died as a result of being wounded by shrapnel.

Mohab Nasser of Tabaqa Media Center and Al Raqqa Truth also shared images of the damage from the artillery strikes, reportedly showing the house of Muhammed al Darwish on February 23 Street next to the Al Salam hospital.

One civilian male was reportedly killed and others were injured after reported artillery shelling of Al Amassi Street in Raqqa city.

Al Hasaka Arabea identified the victim and reported that he was an internal refugee from the Hama countryside.

Both sources reporting the incident alleged that the US-backed SDF was responsible for the artillery strikes. However, Coalition officials have informed Airwars that the SDF was not using artillery at Raqqa.

For June 14th-20th, 19 strikes were made by French aircraft in Iraq and Syria. Most of them were carried out during the Battle of Mosul, in support of the Iraqi fighters engaged in the fighting to drive ISIL out of its positions in the North of the Medina. The other strikes were carried out in support of the fighting for the capture of Raqqah, and against flows of arms and fighters in Iraq and Syria.

@7UFCmSxd0IUBffH and @Q_Alenezy blamed the Coalition for his death.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, “the International Coalition warplanes carried out after midnight a raid on areas in Ma’daan town in the eastern countryside of Al-Raqqah, causing the death of a civilian and the injury of others.”

Q Alenzy said the victim died in “the eastern suburb of Rameh, Shamia.”

In the past week, France reports 21 sorties and 4 strikes, 2 in Raqqa and 2 in Iraq. Task Force Wagram conducted 15 artillery strikes in Mosul. Since September 19th 2014, it reports 1311 strikes, 2076 targets destroyed and 6775 sorties.

Airwars assessment

The Euphrates Post reported “The martyrdom of Ali Hamoud al-Tarihah and the wounding of Saleh al-Badri as a result of air raids by the international coalition that targeted his home in the area of Al Diyaf in the town of Abu Hamam”.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights also blamed the Coalition for the victim’s death, as did Asharqi News Network.

In June 2019 the Coalition announced that it had assessed this allegation of civilian harm as non-credible, noting “After a review of all available strike records it was determined that, more likely than not, civilian casualties did not occur as a result of a Coalition strike.”
