Airwars assessment

Two children were reportedly wounded in airstrikes conducted in Al-Tah. Most sources said  that Russian warplanes were to blame for the raids. There were no reports of civilian deaths.

Baladi News did not report on civilian harm, stating only that “Russian warplanes launched dozens of intensive raids on several cities and towns of the southern and eastern Idlib villages targeting both Ma’arat al-Nu’man and its environs, the towns of al-Tah”

@syriancivildefe and the Step News Agency said that two children were wounded in the raid.

Two rockets were allegedly fired by warplanes, “targeting the houses of civilians in al-Tah in southern Idlib”. @syriancivildefe , did not attribute blame.

In an article published on January 30th 2018 Russia reported: ”crews of the Aerospace Forces of Russia had successfully performed 34,561 sorties. The Minister of Defence pointed out that the Tu-22M3 long-range bombers, as well as the Su-24M, Su-34 and Su-35S short-range aircraft had proved to be efficient. The Tu-160 and Tu-95MS strategic bombers delivered 66 strikes by cruise missiles, and each eliminated the assigned target. The Minister of Defence also stated that Russian UAVs provided complete control over the whole Syrian territory. The head of the military department paid attention to the significant contribution to the achievement of the operation made by the Navy. The naval surface forces carried out 171 combat missions. The ships and submarines carried out 100 high-precision attacks with the Kalibr cruise missiles. For the first time, the aircraft carrier "Admiral of the Soviet Union Fleet Kuznetsov" participated in combat operations. Due to high professional skills of deck aircraft, 1,252 terrorist objects were eliminated.”

A single source, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, reported that “warplanes believed to be Russian” bombed areas in Al Bab city in the northern countryside of Aleppo. The Observatory said the alleged attack resulted in injuries and casualties, including women and children, but did not provide numbers.

However, Halab Today TV and North Media Institute said that regime helicopters dropped barrel bombs.

In its report for military actions on January 19 2016, the Kremlin reports carrying out strikes in Aleppo governorate: “In the course of the last four days, aircraft of the Russian air group in the Syrian Arab Republic have performed 157 combat sorties engaging 579 objects of terrorists’ infrastructure in the provinces of Aleppo, Raqqah, Latakia, Homs, Hama and Deir ez-Zor.“

Alleged Russian and/or Syrian regime warplanes struck the eastern town of Jarjanaz, Idlib, reportedly causing several injuries, local media reported.

Several sources, such as Step News Agency, reported how multiple Idlib towns were subject to “several air raids with rockets and explosive barrels targeting” on February 10th, including Jarjanaz.

However, only Sham News Network who reported about injury of civilians following the strikes.

All sources, except one, pointed to Russia as the responsible. Sham News Network namely pointed to both “Russian and Asiad military aircraft”.

Up to four civilians were reported killed and others injured in alleged Russian forces or Syrian regime airstrikes on Al A’aliya in Qunaitera, Syria on July 17th, 2018.

Middle East Online (MEO) said “Another civilian was killed in Russian raids targeting the town of Al A’liya in the western countryside of Daraa at the administrative border with Quneitra, according to the observatory.”

Local Coordination Committees of Syria said the Assad regime attacked the town with explosive barrels.

However, Shaam Network raised the death toll to four “Four other people dead and a number of injuries in the town of al-‘Aliya, northwest of Daraa, as a result of heavy air raids on the town and its environs in Tel al-Mahs.”

MEO blamed Russia while Local Coordination Committee accused the Syrian regime for the responsibility for this event.

@DeryNews said that “Helicopters [usually refers to regime if no Russia is mentioned] threw several explosive barrels targeting the town of Al-Alia near the city of Jasem in the countryside of Dara’a, causing dozens of wounded.”
