At least one child was killed and her sibling, another child, was injured in alleged Russian or regime strikes on a cemetery in Kafr Nouran on August 20, 2021.

The Syrian Civil Defense reported that two children, Muhammad Subhi Darwish, 9, and his sister, Huda, 8, were injured in the town of Kafr Noran. Both children were taken to the hospital but Huda was transferred to a Turkish hospital due to the seriousness of her injuries.

A tweet by @abo_aljod84 identified “civilian martyrs and wounded in the town of Kafr Noran” but did not provide any details or numbers.

Various sources reported that Muhammad’s condition was “stable”. However, Zaiton mag later wrote that “the little girl, Huda Darwish, died of her injury yesterday”.

According to Macro Media Center, the two children, Muhammad and Huda, were in the town cemetery visiting their father’s grave when the area was bombed. @SbmjMS3nXS7DzvE added that the children were reciting the Quran and praying at the grave at the time the strikes occurred.

Sources were conflicted as to who was responsible for the strikes. A tweet from @Almohrar1 attributed the shelling to Russia while Macro Media Center identified the regime as using a “machine gun “23” in the attack against Kafr Nouran.

The incident occured in the morning.

Airwars assessment

At least one civilian was killed and six other civilians were injured in alleged Russian or regime or Iranian strikes on Daraa Al Balad on August 23, 2021.

A tweet from @Almohrar1 reported that the young man Yazn Al-Omari was killed in the strikes on Daraa Al Balad.

@omar_alharir added that a number of civilians were wounded but did not provide how many, while Radio Al Kul wrote about “the injury of 6 civilians” from the incident.

Shaam News pointed out that there was no dedicated medial facility in Dara’a at the time – only facilities that had a limited amount of medical equipment and no doctors or surgeons.

Sources were conflicted as to who was responsible for the strikes. The majority attributed the attacks to Iran and/or the regime. However, Syrian Civil Defence blamed the strikes on Russia and the regime.

Horan Free Media and the Syrian Network for Human Rights identified rocket launchers as being used in the attack, while Shaam News pointed to both rocket and artillery bombardments. The location of the strikes was pinpointed to the Kashef neighborhood in the city of Daraa, according to Ahrar Houran Gathering.

Radio Al Kul reported that the bombardment coincided with a breakdown in ceasefire negotiations between the Daraa Central Committee, and ,regime and Russian forces.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

At least one child was injured in alleged Russian or regime or Iranian shelling of Taqad on August 23, 2021.

According to the Syrian Civil Defense, a child was injured during artillery shelling of the  village of Taqad. All other sources that reported on civilian harm identified one child as being injured in the shelling as well.

Zaman Al Wasl wrote that the child’s injuries were “slight” and that civilian homes were also extensively damaged in the strikes. Activist Ali Haj Suleiman confirmed to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that “a child was wounded by shrapnel in the head and leg as a result of intense artillery shelling.”

Sources were conflicted as to who was responsible for the strikes, with the majority of sources attributing the strikes to the regime while @Almohrar1 blamed Russia and Al Araby pointed to Iranian militias stationed in the “46th Regiment” as being responsible.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

A major bombardment of the town of Tafas in Daraa caused up to three civilian deaths and up to six more injuries, according to extensive local reporting. Both the Assad regime and to a lesser extend Russia were blamed for the attacks.

Horan Free Media, citing its local correspondent, initially described the death of one young civilian male and six injuries “including critical cases” in the attack. The Syrian Observatory also described the deaths of a man and woman.

All sources were agreed on one fatal victim, 26 year old Hafeza Mar’i al-Rabadawi, a woman. Horan for example noted that “a medical source from Tafas Hospital told the Ahrar Horan Gathering that the woman, Hafeza Mar’i al-Rabadawi, died directly as a result of the bombing, while all 6 injured people were treated in the city hospital.”

Adding some confusion to reporting, a second woman’s death – that of Sabah al-Bardan – was also initially claimed by the outlet, though this was later denied on its own Telegram channel, which reported that Ms al-Bardan was in fact alive. The Syrian Network instead reported the death of Ms al-Bardan, as did several other local sources.

A third fatal victim was named by several sources including Qasioun as Samir Reshan Al-Zoubi, a young man.

The White Helmets, which posted a video showing at least six strikes on the town, declared that “Civilians were killed and wounded in a major military escalation by the regime and Russia forces on the city of Tafas in Daraa governorate.” Halab Today said that more than 30 missiles had targeted the town, while Thiqa News claimed that 50 missiles had struck. It was one of several local sources to report three civilian deaths.

In a separate video, Shaam News showed what it described as “the state of panic and fear among the students, after missile shelling by the Fourth Division militias on the vicinity of a school during work hours in Tafas city.”

The Syrian Network condemned what it said was “the bombing of civilian-populated areas by the Syrian regime which fails to distinguish between populated civilian areas and military targets, resulting in the destruction of homes that threatens and forcibly displaces the residents of those areas.”

Baladi News was alone in suggesting the attack may have been in response to local rebel actions, noting that “The area is witnessing a security alert by regime forces, after a military vehicle was targeted with an explosive device on the Nawa – Sheikh Maskin road, west of Daraa, and the regime’s ranks were killed and wounded.”

The incident occured in the morning.

A least one civilian, a 17 year old girl, was killed and one to two others were injured in alleged Russian or regime strikes on Farika village on September 2, 2021.

According to the Syrian Network for Human Rights, a woman named Fatimah Adnan Hussein was killed while other civilians were injured in Syrian regime forces’ artillery shelling of Farika village.

Syrian Civil Defense added that Fatima had only been married for two months and when she was killed she was visiting with her family for the last time. @anasanas84 reported that she was only 17 years old at the time she was killed.

@Almohrar1 also identified that a young man was injured by the artillery shelling and Baladi News added that the injury of the civilian was moderate. However, Al-Jazeera correspondent in Syria provided information of “the injury of a number of civilians” but did not say how many while Xeber 24 News put the number of injuries at two.

Media activist Ibrahim Khatib said, in an interview with Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, that “the regime forces targeted, this Thursday afternoon, a residential house in the village of Fraika, west of Idlib governorate, with an artillery shell, which led to the killing of a woman who had been married for only two months”.

The majority of sources attributed the strikes to the Syrian regime. However, the Syrian Civil Defense blamed both the regime and Russia for launching the shells that killed the civilian Fatima and @Almohrar1 assigned responsibility to Russia.

The incident occured in the afternoon.

Airwars assessment

At least one civilian, a child, was killed and one to two others were injured in alleged Russian airstrikes while grazing a flock of sheep on the outskirts of Kansafra on September 3, 2021.

Idlib Plus reported that the child “Ali Ahmed Al-Brouk” was killed in Russian airstrikes on the town of Kansafra. Syrian Network for Human Rights identified Ali as being 12 years old and Zaman Al Wasl News said that Ali died from “severe wounds he sustained in the abdomen and pelvis, as well as bleeding in the vertebral arteries and vertebral veins”.

Shaam News added that in addition to the child that was killed, a man was also injured in the bombing and North Press Agency provided the name of the injured young man: Youssef al-Najjar, resident of Kansafra. Both were with a flock of sheep on the outskirts of the village when the attack occurred, which also killed many of the sheep. Syrian Civil Defense added that both tended to sheep to support their families.

Edlib Media Center put the victim toll from the strikes at one child killed and two others injured. The correspondent for Radio Al Kul added that the two wounded were between light and medium injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. The correspondent of “Zaman Al-Wasl” in Idlib identified the child that was killed’s father as also sustaining wounds to varying degrees.

Firas Khalifa, the media official in the Syrian Civil Defense (White Helmets), told Anadolu Agency that the bombing targeted a farm for raising animals and a workshop for making bricks.

A tweet from @Tiger_forces_ identified “terrorist gatherings and headquarters in the vicinity of the town of Kansafra” as the location of the strikes but provided no other information.

All of the sources that reported on the incident attributed the airstrikes to Russia. Anadolu Agency reported that the “Aviation Tracking Observatory” of the Syrian opposition stated, on its social media accounts, that a Russian plane took off at around 10 am this morning, local time, from Hmeimim Airport in Lattakia Governorate (west) and bombed the village of Kansafra in the southern countryside of Idlib Governorate.

Macro Media Center identified “vacuum missiles” as being used in the airstrikes. “Nedaa Post” correspondent said that the southern outskirts of the village of Kansafra were targeted with three raids.

Airwars assessment

At least one child was injured in alleged Russian strikes on the outskirts of the town of Al Rami on September 4, 2021.

The Al-Jisr Network correspondent reported that a child was injured by Russian warplanes bombing on the outskirts of the town of Al-Rami.

Baladi News added that the child was injured to varying degrees and that he was taken to the nearest medical point by the Civil Defense teams.

Macro Media Center provided the name of the child injured: Abdo Ahmed Asali and a correspondent for Zaman Al Wasl added that he was eight years old.

Syrian Civil Defense identified the location of the strikes as being on a poultry farm. According to Zaman Al Wasl, the bombings occurred “close to the lines of contact separating Assad’s forces and the Syrian opposition within the Jabal al-Zawiya area”.

All of the sources blamed the strikes on Russia and Zaman Al Wasl identified a Russian (Sukhoi-35) warplane as being used in the attack.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

The victims were named as:
