As many as 25 civilians were reported killed following alleged Coalition evening airstrikes in the Maysalon farmlands area north of Raqqa.

The Syrian Observatory reported two civilian deaths from Coalition actions – while others placed the death toll at 10, 16 and even 25. According to Step News, those killed were internally displaced peple from Hazima. Most of thosr reporting the deaths were pro-Assad regime.

In confused reporting, both Russia and the Coalition were blamed for the deaths of between 4 and 5 civilians at Marat (see also the next report.)

According to Euphrates Post (which like all sources did not attribute responsibility) the home of Thabet al Darwish was targeted by warplanes killing five family members: “two women and three children and there are seven injured.”

Free Deir Ezzor Radio said the dead and injured were all from the same family, naming four fatalities.

In a report which may be confused in part with event CS390 in Maarat, warplanes struck Marat – apparently for the second time in 24 hours – killing up to five civilians.
Free Deir Ezzor Radio reported that “warplanes launch two raids targeting the villages of Marat – the raids were in the same area as the massacre yesterday. Until now there are five martyrs.” The same source also reported that the attack killed “the martyr Yasser Ahmad Thabet al Darwish and four unidentified martyrs who happened to be passing in the high street in Mrat at the time of the raid launched by warplanes noon today.”

The named victim’s details closely resembled those of a reported victim of the previous day’s strike.

Euphrates Post instead reported “one martyr and four wounded some of them in a critical condition after warplanes targeted the house of Ahmad al Darwish this afternoon.”

Airwars assessment

There were claims by local sources that as many as 70 civilian casualties occurred in Mosul as a result of Coalition strikes, ISIL bombardment or Iraq Army actions.

Iraqi Spring Media Center reported that 70 civilians were killed or wounded by “either” the Coalition or Iraqi government artillery.

Other reports put the toll lower, including one released by Al Taghier Channel, which put the toll at 36 killed and wounded. Additional outlets reported that ISIL had committed massacres in areas of Mosul recaptured by government forces.

In a January 2nd 2017 statement which may refer to this or the following event, the Coalition noted: Nov. 24, 2016, near Mosul, Iraq: After a review of available information and strike video it was assessed that no civilians were harmed in this strike. A senior official later informed Airwars that the alleged incident had come to light as a result of internal reporting.

Airwars assessment

A single outlet, Iraqyoon News, cited local sources and reported on Facebook that four civil defence employees were killed by an alleged Coalition strike on Algeria Street in the east of Mosul.

In a January 2nd 2017 statement which may refer to this or the previous event, the Coalition noted: Nov. 24, 2016, near Mosul, Iraq: After a review of available information and strike video it was assessed that no civilians were harmed in this strike.

A senior official later informed Airwars that the alleged incident had come to light as a result of internal reporting. Supplied co-ordinates showed the target was a house in Mosul’s al Karamah neighbourhood.

An ISIL video issued that day showed at least one house badly damaged, which may relate to this event.
