Civilians were injured, including one man, when Russian airstrikes targeted the Al-Iman Hospital in the village of Sarja, Idlib Governorate on January 26th, 2020, according to local media reports. The sources claim the bombing forced the closure of the hospital which served up to 50,000 civilians from the surrounding area.

Sham News quoted the Free Idlib Health Directorate as saying Russian warplanes targeted the Al-Iman Hospital in Sarjeh village in Jabal Al-Zawiya at dawn causing significant damage to the hospital’s departments and equipment, forcing it to close. The bombing reportedly injured a number of patients, no injuries were reported among the medical personnel.

@MoamenRawy said: “A person was injured as a result of targeting Al-Iman Hospital in Sarjah in Jabal Al-Zawiya in Idlib countryside, at dawn today, January 26, by Russian warplanes, which led to the hospital being completely out of service.

Several additional sources also stated that a civilian had been injured.

Anadolu Agency reported that the bombing did not result in casualties as the hospital had been evacuated of patients and staff prior to the attack.

The Baladi News correspondent in the Idlib countryside said: “On Sunday morning, Russian warplanes bombed with high-explosive missiles the “Al-Iman” hospital in the village of Sarja in the southern countryside of Idlib, which led to its complete destruction.” The source said the hospital had been the target of previous aerial bombardments that caused moderate damage and the facility had been partially taken out of service several times.

All of the sources alleged that Russia had carried out the strike.

Local Coordination Committees of Syria said the strike occurred at 4:08 am, IdlibPlus and Halab Today also said it occurred “after midnight”.

The incident occured between 12:00 am and 4:08 am local time.
