Airwars assessment
A child was killed and at least 10 civilians, including children and a woman, were injured in alleged Russian airstrikes on the city of Al Bab, Idlib governorate, on July 15th, 2019, according to local sources.
Local activists told Smart News Agency that “Russian warplanes targeted residential neighbourhoods in the city of Al Bab with three airstrikes, killing one child and wounding eight other civilians.”
The Facebook page Al Bab Coordination initially reported 11 injured civilians, among which two women, five children and four men. The page later shared a list provided by Al Bab Hospital with the names of the injured: one man, one woman and eight children.
Step News Ageny reported one killed child and six wounded. The Syrian Civil Defence reported nine wounded civilians, including a child in critical condition. SCD teams searched the rubble for victims.
According to Al Bab Coordination, the Iman mosque and the Al Jahjah roundabout in the city centre were targeted. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported the use of high explosive rockets.
The city, which is under control of pro-Turkish opposition forces, was reportedly targeted in the evening. Muhammed Orabi, a correspondent for Step News Agency, reported that “the Russian airstrikes targeted the city with two raids, which targeted random civilian targets. The first raid targeted a civilian building inhabited by people displaced from the city of Saraqib, east of Idlib in the Beit Najjar neighbourhood near the Book Circle, and resulted in huge damage.”
The SOHR added that “it is worth noting that this is the second time Al Bab city was hit by Russian airstrikes since early February this year.”
The incident occured in the evening.
