Shortly before 11:47 AM on October 24, 2023, a number of civilians, including a female child, were injured in an alleged Russian airstrike on the Ain Shayb water station in the Arri area, west of Idlib, Syria. Though no longer operational, the water station served as a refuge for displaced families – predominantly livestock farmers.

Shehab Agency and HalabTodayTV reported that a child was injured and bruised. The Syrian Network for Human Rights wrote that this was a female child. Haqq News Agency reported that a number of injuries resulted from the attack.

According to the Syrian Network for Human Rights, Russian fixed-wing aircraft “bombarded several missiles” at the water station. Civil defense teams were called in to extinguish a fire that broke out in bags of hay which caught alight as a result of the bombing. Syrian Civil Defense shared the images of its staff members extinguishing the fire as well as the images showing the destroyed station. Significant damage to the station building was also reported by the Al Furat news agency.

According to local sources, this was the second bombing of the station, with a previous strike being noted on August 22, 2023.

Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Russian military.
