Shortly before 7:55 AM on Sunday, December 1st 2024, two camps for displaced persons, including Hay al-Jami’a camp located in the the Al-Jami’a neighborhood of Idlib, Syria, a public square and residential neighborhoods were hit by airstrikes that reportedly originated from the Syrian regime and/or Russian military forces and killed four civilians, including a woman, and injured 54 civilians, including 25 children and 16 women.

The camps were located on the western “University” outskirts of Idlib City. The University Camp and the Youth Housing Camp received substantial damage, according to a Facebook post by AlJumhuriya.net. It added that there were several burnt cars and other civilian property. There were reportedly up to five consecutive airstrikes.

The Syrian Civil Defense, also known as “White Helmets”, first reported on the incident at 7:55 AM. With later tweets, it noted the deaths of four civilians, including one woman. Further, 54 people were injured, with 25 children and 16 women reported to make up the figure. On Facebook, Syrian Civil Defense uploaded a video that depicted the aftermath. The video showed three children running towards the White Helmets’ emergency vehicle while the volunteers were shouting, “Come, come!”. The youngest child had blood and dust all over their face. The video continued with multiple women, including an elderly one, and children climbing into the ambulance. Elsewhere, there was clear material damage to cars and tents, whilst the ground was damaged with large holes from the airstrike, presumably at the camp for displaced persons. At the time of writing, there were no further details regarding the deceased.

@Idlib TV, on Facebook, attached photographic evidence of large plumes of smoke emerging from a strip of land near residential areas.

On Facebook, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights attributed the strike to Russian military, and on Twitter/X Idlib TV attributed the strike to the Syrian regime and Russian aircraft. Other sources across social media also identified the belligerent as the Syrian regime, with some noting the inclusion of Russian military involvement.
