On Sunday, 1 December 2024, an airstrike hit al-Jazmati neighbourhood in the city of Aleppo, killing one woman and trapping five members of her family, all children, under the rubble. No further information was available to determine the identity of the victim or the fate of the missing civilians.
The information about the attack was released on 4 December on X/Twitter by @Syriancivildefe and was later shared by several other accounts. The images included in the post showed extensive damage to civilian infrastructure, with a building completely destroyed. Members of the White Helmets can be seen digging through the rubble in search of survivors and sealing a body bag, presumably containing the remains of the killed woman, and similar scenes appear in a video posted by the same account.
While most of the reports published on the same date do not explicitly mention the date of the incident, this latter post indicated it as having occurred on Sunday, 1 December. The same source also indicated that the rescuing and retrieving efforts occurred in a context of” ongoing escalation and great destruction in the place.”
While @Syriancivildefe suggests that the airstrike was carried out by “Assad regime warplanes,” other sources attribute responsibility either to Syrian or Russian forces.
