Airwars assessment

On April 6th, 2022, a 33-year-old civilian was reported killed and three civilians, a woman over 50-years-old and two 65-66-year-olds (a man and a woman), were reported injured after an alleged Russian shelling of Zolochiv, Kharkiv.

Viktor Kovalenko, the head of the community, reported that the 33-year-old civilian was running “from his house to the basement of his neighbors” for shelter “because he didn’t have his own. And he didn’t run a meter and a half – his legs were blown off by an explosion.”

The 65-66 year old neighbors, a man and a woman, to whom the civilian allegedly ran were reported injured by Kovalenko. The man allegedly suffered from “a light wound,” and the woman a “moderate wound,” with her back being “badly cut.”

Another woman, over 50-years-old, was also reported injured by Kovalenko, who described that she “was cut by shrapnel on her arm and side.” Newsroom.kh.ua and Kharkivlife, however, cited Kovalenko in stating that her arm and side were “chopped off” by the shrapnel.

According to Radatv, the wounded were taken to the hospital while the attack was ongoing.

Viktor Kovalenko told Sospilno that “Russian troops fired at Zolochiv from the side of Kozachoa Lopan, which was temporarily captured.”

Additionally, he reported that “the shelling began at half past twelve at night, and they fired for about half an hour.” He went on to report that “18 houses were destroyed” and “the hospital was damaged” by the strike.

According to Tyzhden.ua and Ukr-patriot, Russian occupiers allegedly used about “27 different types of weapons” on the residential quarters of Kharkiv on the night of April 6th, 2022.

All sources alleged Russian responsibility for the strike.

This incident has reference to ACLED’s code UKR55199.
