According to Hawar News, late in the night of Thursday, 27th June 2024, the village of Al-Daraj in the northern countryside of Manbij canton, northeast of Aleppo, Syria, was reportedly hit by an intense alleged Turkish bombardment using heavy artillery, resulting in the death of a 45-year-old local civilian Ibrahim Daraj (Derc) Samo and the injury of another young man, 26-year-old Khaled Kamel Al-Hilal. However, according to some other sources, including SOHR, the two civilian men were shot by bullets coming from members of the factions loyal to Turkey, the Syrian National Army, during their clashes with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
According to Hawar News, Ibrahim Daraj Samo, who was a resident of Al-Daraj village, died as a result of a head injury. The Syrian Network for Human Rights shared an image of the late Ibrahim – a middle-aged man dressed in a white shirt and a white headscarf.
Khaled Kamel Al Hilal from the village of Hassan Agha also sustained a head injury but was transferred to a hospital in the city of Manbij. The Facebook account of the Military Women’s Council of Manbij City and its Countryside shared a video with Khaled, a young bearded man lying on a hospital bed with a bandaged head while his arm was connected to an IV. The same account reported he had undergone surgery and recovered to a stable condition.
The Facebook account of the Syrian Network for Human Rights stated that the two victims were together when they were attacked, and the incident coincided with the clashes that broke out between members of the National Army Forces and members of the Syrian Democratic Forces near the village.
ANF news reported that the attack occurred due to Turkish incursions in the region of Rojava.
All the reports concurred that the Turkish military or Syrian National Army, the militia affiliated with the Turkish military was responsible for the attack.
