Airwars assessment
According to a Freedom of Information request obtained by journalist Joshua Eaton in May 2019, this previously unknown US strike took place in the vicinity of Shashweyne, Bandir region, Somalia against al-Shabaab fighters.
In its FOIA response, AFRICOM again confirmed it had targeted what it says were “AS fighters”, in the vicinity of Shashweyne, Banadir region, Somalia.
Separately AFRICOM said it had also targeted an al Shabaab leader that day, again in the vicinity of Shashweyne – which Airwars is reporting as a separate event.
This incident was not previously publicly known. No further details are currently available.
The local time of the incident is unknown.

Reports of the incident mention that the strike took place in the vicinity of the village or town of Shashweyne in the Banadir region. Due to limited information available to Airwars, we were unable to verify the location of Shashweyne. However, the generic coordinates for the Banadir region are: 2.099721, 45.35544.
