Hiiraan Online News reported that on April 5, 2024, the Somali Federal Government forces, supported by local militias and international allies, “targeted” Al-Shabaab hideouts in the Jir Jir Farey and Burka Fiiqey areas, north of Ruunirgood in Middle Shabelle. According to the government, the strike resulted in “multiple Al-Shabaab casualties” and the destruction of one of their military vehicles. Albanaadir News provided similar information that was provided by the Somali government. No additional information was provided as to which international ally carried out the attack or how many casualties resulted from the attack.

While no sources directly implicated the US in the operation, the Somali government’s reference to “international partners” has in the past indicated US involvement but could also refer to Turkish involvement or United Arab Emirates involvement.
